Candyman Review

This is one of favorite screen versions of a Clive Barker story. A University of Illinois graduate student is researching urban legends and comes across the creepy tale of Candyman who is believed to reside in Cabrini-Green, a housing tenement in Chicago. The residents are convinced he is real and they tend to keep quiet about it. For to anger the Candyman will bring his vengeance in the form of an arcing hook straight to the gullet.

It is said that if you say his name five times while looking in a mirror, he will appear to slash you to ribbons. The researcher who is fearless as well as out of her element learns of a murder that was believed to have been the work of the Candyman. Now she is Hell-bent on finding the truth for she has no faith in the legend as it is told. But her gung-ho attitiude soon lands her in hot water as well as a mental institution when unexplainable murders start popping up around her turning her into the Jessica Fletcher of Chicago. Only no one believes her story that the Candyman is real.

Will she convince the authorities to believe her wild tales of a man in the mirror? Will she get cleared of all the charges in time to finish her thesis? Will you say his name five times? I dare you. Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman...that's it for me. I've seen the movie and that is as close as I want to get.
