May Review
Written by: Moviemaven
First of all, I would like to thank the hottie in the horror section of the video store for recommending this film. He said it was surprisingly good. And it is.
May is the tale of a disturbed young woman that slowly spirals into madness. As a child she wore a patch in order to correct a lazy eye. Because of this she had difficulty making friends. Okay, she had no friends. Her mother was a dollmaker and gave her the first doll she ever made as a birthday gift. Suzie quickly became May's best friend.
We fast forward to her young adult life where she works in a vet clinic and lives alone (except for Suzie). May has never had a boyfriend and she takes a liking to a young man that works in an auto body shop. They go out on few dates but her strange fixation with his hands (among other things) begins to freak him out. Simultaneously, May becomes involves with girl at work. When she realizes that the world is full of beautiful pieces but no beautiful wholes, she decides to take her mother's advice. She always said 'If you can't find a friend, make one.' And she does excactly that.
This disturbing tale weaves the macabre into a sad view of a very lonely girl's life. It is repulsive at times but also oddly erotic. May deals with the same insecurities and disappointments in relationships that we all share but on a much more extreme level. A beautiful film but most assuredly not for everyone.
