Re-Animator Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

I remember talking to my brother on the phone years ago about how much of a horror fan I thought I was. But when he asked me a simple question; Have you seen "Re-animator". I said no, and after an akward silence he responded with this quote before hanging up on me: "You're not a real horror fan until you've seen Re-animator...you just have to see that movie."

That conversation pretty sums up how I feel about this brilliant adaptation of a great H.P lovecraft story.

In short- Re-animator is a 'how not to play god' cautionary tale, with a simple story line, a small cast and moderate budget.

Scientist Herbert West (doesnt that name just cry out imminent doom to you?) Is working on a serum that as the title sugests- brings corpses back to life. At this point I really dont need to say any more about the story plot-  I mean honestly...does that sort of thing ever work out well?

Lets just say that the serum works, but with some nasty side-effects. As expected, Zombie-filled shenanigans and wackiness ensue, and shlocky horror related fun is had by all.

Rightfully so, Re-animator earned cult status with Jeffrey Combs( Dr. Herbert west) deadpan (if you'll forgive the pun) delivery of a comical b-grade script, not to mention bucket loads of gore, great zombie make-up effects and some genuinly frightening moments thrown in amongst the off-beat humour that laces the entire film.

If you are a fan of Zombie horror you must watch this film, though it's and oddball entry its a great one and worth the time. words cannot describe how much I love this movie..

p.s- be on the look out for a hillarious zombie-cat scene....
