The Thing Review

10 out of 10 Skulls

This is one of my all time favourite sci-fi/horror movies. Its creepy, the fx are sick, the acting is A+ and the score delivers a cold and freaky atmosphere. This is a prime example of why Carpenter is one of the greats for horror directing. He never lets up on suspense throughout his films and never really lets the audience walk away from the movie with a happy ending.

I've owned this movie for years now, and still don't get sick of watching it. Ever since I first watched it ( I was only about 8 years old and it scared the living shit out of me), it still remains creepy all these yeras after its release. The fx are truly kick ass in this flic. They're gross and dont look fake, unlike many eighties horror fx. I especially like the scene with the sled dogs being attacked as the Thing transforms itself for the first time. Like I said the actring is great, Kurt Russell plays his grim role with intensity, and Will Brimley is great as a psycho Dr, trying to save the rest of the world from coming in contact with the Thing.

If you like Horror movies with a sci-fi element you must see this movie. Its dark, creepy, and has lots of genuine jumps throughout. Great to watch alone on a cold stormy winter night, but make sure you turn up the furnace, cause this Thing will leave you with chills. Two severed thumbs.
