I give Fulci the edge because of his Gialli films and the fact that I feel like more people will vote for Romero because they are less familiar with Fulci’s overall filmography outside of zombie movies. It’s a very tough choice, though.

There’s no denying the impact that Fulci’s best work had. Fulci rarely pulled his punches. His films were visceral and dreamlike. But Romero came out swinging with the original Night of the Living Dead, a horror film about as close to perfect as you can get. Then he followed it with an incredible body of work including Martin, Dawn & Day of the Dead, The Dark Half and Creepshow, among others. With all due respect to Fulci, Romero is my pick.
