Want a way to relax and relieve your stress? Then watch this movie! Last night I watched this movie for the second time after needing a little stress free time. Whilst this will not win any awards for originality, it does for the gore, insanity and movie itself. Based loosely on the original movie of Herschell Gordon Lewis's 2000 Maniacs this is a funny, over the top film with characters to hate/love in plentiful selection.

Film in 8 words: Teenagers wind up in the insane Pleasant Valley. You all know the plot, don't pretend you don't! ;-) That about sums it up.

I love this movie and I love it because it gives me everything I want for a lazy, wonderful break. No need to worry about a complex plot or characters who I must decide what I think of them, it is quite simply a movie that has a straight forward plot, actors who fit into the chaotic ride easily and the gore I need in a movie. And right at this moment can I declare my love for Peaches? That is one crazy ass gal you don't want to mess with!

You have to love Robert Englund! Sorry but this guy can play Freddy Krueger (forget the many, many... sequels...), he can play Professor Crowley in Jack Brooks, he is pure cheese gold and I will not hear a bad word against him! Adding this to his resume he plays the part of Mayor Buckman fantastically. Spreading the cheese on his acting perfectly he adds many dimensions to the character as should be noted. In simple terminology, he rocked in this film.

Lin Shaye as Granny Boone. Admittedly I like this old gal. Loved her as Magda in There's something about Mary, loved her as Laura Harrington in Dead End and she adds a gleam to this movie. With that wholesome smile you can tell she is plotting something nasty as hell. The fact she can pull off such a role with little difficultly shows this is a woman who knows how to work the camera. Fantastic portrayal on screen.

As for the rest of the main cast, ergo the college students who wind in Pleasant Valley I was nicely surprised. Take away the gorgeous actors they chose for the role and hone in on their acting and some of them are not too bad. Name checking Jay Gillespie & Marla Malcolm in particular who didn't just seem horny and randy but actually more involved in the acting process. That being said the final scene of the movie with them was OH SO sweet!!

Cinematography? A movie of this kind is a little hard to gander when it comes to the cinematography but I'll try my best. There were some nice lingering shots of the forest where Pleasant Valley is located. Gorgeous scenery in a few scenes where they used the sun to great effect in set scenes and some nice shots of PV itself. All in all, I respected and liked the way Cinematography was handled. Gore? Hell Yes!!

Ok really there was not tons but what you did get was awesome. I adored how it was not CGI based at all but proper in your face effects. Some of my favourite bloody moments included, the spear up the ass hehe, those razor sharp teeth, the bell squashing, limbs torn off etc. They were fantastic and looked very over-the-top but in a movie that is meant as a homage to horror idiocy then it was just the icing on the cake. Music? All I will say is it was fine.

Want me to continue? Didn't think so. :-p But in all this is a fun, entertaining and disgusting little film that deserves a watch. Get a bunch of mates, the popcorn (so sue me the line is back! :D)
and enjoy the movie for what it is. Entertainment. If you want something new, unique then what can I say? Definitely not. But for anyone who just wants a pick me up this is the movie for you.

Bloody, gory and funny as heck in parts this is a movie worth taking the risk on. Awesome and that is all. 8/10
