This movie was absolutely panned by critics and some of the fan base, which is why it took me so long to watch it. What inspired me to buy the movie is when Meh wrote his review saying this is a movie that fans of the first two will love. I'm a HUGE fan of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and now I am a huge fan of The Mummy 3.
Our movie follows mostly the story of the Dragon Emperor, Jet Li. It was a balancing story of immortality, coming of age (their son, Alex) and a revitalization of love.
I'm not going to break it apart because this is a mainstream movie everyone knows what's up, but how is it?
The violence in this movie is real top notch. Ancient China has always been a fascination of mine and the way it's portrayed in this movie is a great way to show it. We see a province leader become emperor and how he properly takes care of body guards, YES!
The comedy is a little over the top, but that's what these movies are about. Do mummies come back to life in the real world, not that I know of. So why does this movie need to be realistic after that fact? I thought all the actors did a great job. The story wasn't too hard to follow and wasn't too simple, it was just right.
Being a Universal feature, the production value was outstanding making the effects of the movie look so realistic and dazzling.
All in all, this movie hit the mark IF and only IF you are a Mummy fan. If you aren't, well, you wouldn't be reading this review if you weren't. Buy this. Peace.
