On March 22, the official website for the live-action film adaptation of Emi Ishkawa’s Zekkyo Gakkyu shojo began streaming the first trailer prior to its theatrical release. It has been confirmed that the film is to open in Japanese theaters on June 14. The trailer features the official cast and Shiori Niiyama’s song, “Dont Cry”, making it the film’s official theme song.
The manga’s original story follows Yomi, a ghost girl who tells the reader various scary stories but the film will adapt two stories from volumes 3 and 8 of the manga: Yomi no Shinjitsu (Yomi’s Truth) and Ningen Rank (Human Rank).
Kana was the idol of her class in elementary school, but after entering a private girls middle school is ranked as average in grades, athletic ability, and parentage. An urban legend at the school states that anyone who finds Yomi (played by Yamamoto) at an old school building can ask her for a wish. Yomi will grant the wish, but only in exchange for something important. Kana goes to Yomi to wish to change her situation, and the next day Kana is accepted into the group of popular girls, but in exchange her friend starts being bullied.
