World War Z Movie Review

I am not going to get into any spoilers or heavy plot details but I will say that World War Z is everything I expected. It’s a big budget action packed zombie movie with a big Hollywood star ( Brad Pitt ), lots of action, some early tension and overall is not a bad movie but is also not a good movie.

World War Z is a popcorn movie that lacks heart and the kind of spark that makes a movie really great but when it comes to zombie films its far from the worst. Classics like Dawn of the Dead hold up over time because they have that spark and message that resonates with fans and although World War Z lacked that special something it was still a reasonable waste of $12.00 at the theater on a hot summer afternoon.

The story for the film is solid, the special effects are respectable and the CGI ‘zombie-ants’ are not nearly as bad as the trailer made them out. World War Z comes across as a zombie movie made by people who don’t understand classic zombie movies or appreciate what they mean to us fans.  Alternatively perhaps it is time that us die-hard horror fans recognized that the genre we love so much is not just for us anymore. World War Z made $112million this weekend world-wide proving that zombie movies have gone mainstream and that mainstream fans love it.

I might want me zombies slower with a deeper richer back story but that hasn’t stopped the film from connecting with a global film audience and making a boat load of money. I think if you like films like 28 Days Later but wanted something more ‘flashy’ then World War Z is the movie for you. If you prefer a more classic or intelligent zombie film or god forbid expect to see Max Brook’s book unfold on the big screen you might be disappointed.

Remember Max Brooks had ZERO input into this film and its creative direction so it shares a name but little else.  Did you see World War Z? Hit back in the comments and let me know what you thought of it.
