Universal’s Dracula Has a Release Date

Jason McDonald

We learned at the beginning of this month that Universal’s updated Dracula origin story had finally found a lead actor in Luke Evans.  After years of being in pre-production hell, it seemed like the project was ready to move ahead.

I had no idea the project was going to move so quickly though, as Universal has announced that their new Dracula film will drop on August 8, 2014.   Production on the film should begin soon, so unless this is gonna be a one man movie where Luke Evans plays everyone (which would be awesome) you should expect casting updates in the near future.

The film is being directed by Gary Shore and is based on a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.  The story centers around a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.
