Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Terminator 5

There has been endless talk of what will happen with Terminator 5 and will that movie ever happen. Well folks the original cyborg Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced that Terminator 5 is going ahead and he will be leading the march.

In an interview with Metro Magazine Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that he has three projects in the works and one of them is in fact Terminator 5. Call me nostalgic but I am incredibly excited.

Various writers have been working on a script for Terminator 5 for years. Just last year Arnold Schwarzenegger let his frustration be known that after almost a year and a half of writing the script for Terminator 5 was a mess.

His latest announcement to Metro seems to show that finally the fifth terminator movie is finally on track. As far as who will direct it the last name that was kicked around was Justin Lin who we know met with the Big Man and the legendary James Cameron to talk about directing Terminator 5. He told The playlist

“Terminator’ is something I’ve been having a lot of fun with,” said Lin. “Just even this week, I had a great meeting with Arnold and James Cameron, just sitting down unofficially. And James is so gracious because he’s not part of the project, he’s not going to be producing, but it was great of him just as a filmmaker to take time out to just talk.”

Frankly my only dissapointment is that William Wisher is not involved despite his showing interest. William Wisher co-wrote the original two Terminator movies and had interest in doing more. He actually wrote up a 24 page script treatment according to Deadline which accommodated the storyline of Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation.

William Wisher reportedly walked away from Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation out of respect for James Cameron. His plans for Terminator 5 and 6 he would have taken it back to its time travel roots, introducing new Skynet Terminators and bringing back Linda Hamilton, John Conner and Kyle Reese.

More importantly he would base Terminator 5 and 6 in the midst of the war which is what I have called for since Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines. Terminator Salvation sort of did this but I want to see the story start from where John Conner enters the bunker after Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines and show people under the steel boots of the machines as they clamber to unite and survive.

Wisher’s take on Terminator 5 not only had Linda Hamilton returning but it also had a role for Arnold Schwarzenegger that Deadline calls as shocking as Arnold’s twist from villain in Terminator 1 to hero in Terminator 2. This part has peaked my interest and has me wondering what on earth could this twist have been.

What do you think of a Terminator 5? Do you want to see Christian Bale return or do you want to see things go all fresh with Justin Lin directing, James Cameron producing and an all new story? I am not sold on Bale’s returning but Anton Yelchin was fantastic in Salvation and his returning is just fine by me.
