LA Hero Complex 2013 with John Carpenter

This past weekend the Los Angeles Times hosted a mini-film festival that brought together fans and filmmakers to celebrate pop culture.  The LA Hero Complex Film Festival stretched from Friday to Sunday and brought out such famous directors as Guillermo del Toro, Frank Darabont and John Carpenter to come speak about their films and take questions from fans.

I was able to attend the John Carpenter screening which took place on Friday and featured a double feature of They Live and Halloween.  While it was nice to watch these classics on the big screen with a room full of fans, the biggest treat was getting to hear John Carpenter speak during the intermission.

He talked at length about the challenges of making They Live and the trouble with major studios and reminisced about collaborating with people like Keith David and Kurt Russell.  He even briefly touched upon the recent story of him directing Dead Space.  Spoiler alert: He says it probably won’t happen.

Check out the video of his talk below and enjoy some of the photos we took.
