Director Cary Fukunaga Leaves ‘It’ Remake

While the rest of us might have been relaxing and enjoying the Memorial Day weekend, it looks like two parties at New Line were locked in some sort of heated debate over the upcoming “It” remake.

According to the Wrap director Cary Fukunaga, who was slated to direct “It”, reached an impasse with New Line regarding the direction of the remake over the weekend.  As a result, Fukunaga has decided to leave the project altogether.  Apparently this was just one incident in a long series of conflicts the two parties have had over the film.

The “It” remake was slated to be a two-part movie which would focus on the kids in their childhood years and then explore their adult years in a sequel.  The Wrap states that the latest incident that drove a wedge between New Line and Fukunaga was that Fukunaga wanted to shoot the film in New York which would’ve been an expensive location to shoot in.  The studio might’ve also gotten some cold feet over the whole project after the recent lackluster performance of “Poltergeist.”

Insiders are telling the Wrap that the project is currently dead, but the idea of remaking “It” has been kicking around for years so I have no doubts that this thing will rear it’s ugly head once again.
