Don’t Expect a Sequel to ‘Digging Up the Marrow’

If you loved Adam Green’s last feature film “Digging Up the Marrow” and were hoping for a follow up to it, I’ve got some bad news for you.  It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.  Possibly ever.

Talking on Periscope tonight Adam Green hosted a little fan interaction session where he answered question from fans along with make-up effects artist Robert Pendergraft and AD Craig Borden.  One of the questions posed to Adam Green was about the possibility of a sequel to “Digging Up the Marrow.”  Here’s what he had to say:

“It is probably not going to happen . . .  If 10% of the assholes who stole that movie had seen it legally and paid to see it there, 100%, would’ve been a ‘Digging up the Marrow 2.’  But that movie was pirated to all fuck.

We can’t do ‘Digging up the Marrow 2’ without some sort of budget.  More of a budget than we had on the first one.  And the budget wasn’t a joke on the first one either.

That’s a real bummer for fans of the first film, but it’s an understandable reaction.  Piracy tends to be treated as a joke and no one really sheds a tear when big budget blockbusters can’t pirated because the attitude tends to be “Eh, Hollywood can afford it.”  And maybe that’s true, I don’t know how the Hollywood accounting system works.  However, when piracy hits small films it definitely has a huge impact on them because they don’t have the resources to bear out the kind of loss piracy represents to their bottom line.

So what would we have gotten with a sequel? Adam offers a bit of insight into what that would have been.

[In] ‘Digging Up the Marrow 2″ we were going to save Dekker and go down there and see more monsters and actually see the ‘marrow.’

So does that definitely mean we’ll never see “Digging Up the Marrow 2″? Well, as it stands, it doesn’t seem likely.  But as Adam Green says in the video”never say never.”  But for now, don’t hold your breath either.
