The Frog Brothers Become the Frog Sisters in New ‘Lost Boys’ Series

It took a long while to finally get some concrete news on the “Lost Boys” TV series.  We actually first learned that the CW was working on a “Lost Boys” show waaaay back in 2016.  After this long it seemed like the series was most assuredly dead.  But it recently sprang back to life with some surprise casting news.

First we learned that Tyler Posey (“Teen Wolf”) and Kiele Sanchez (“The Glades”) had been cast as the series leads.  Posey will play big brother Michael while Sanchez will play Lucy, the mom who drags Michael and his brother Sam to Santa Carla.  So far everything seems to be following the formula of the original film, but today’s casting news brings an interesting twist.

It turns out the Frog Brothers, made famous by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander, will now be the Frog Sisters.  Cheyenne Haynes (“Camping”) and Haley Tju (“Bella and the Bulldogs”) will be playing Liza and Cassie.  Aside from the gender change, it sounds like the Frog Sisters will remain generally the same.  They’ll be running a comic book shop in Santa Clara and will be well aware of the weird shit going down in their city.

Also announced today was the casting of Sarah Hay as Mollie.  Here’s how Deadline describes her character:

Turned into a vampire by David, Mollie has become her maker’s rival for leadership of the vampire gang. She travels in a small pack with her eternally 8-year-old son, Laddie, and a guardian, Hiram, who’s there to make sure she doesn’t get into too much trouble.

Sounds like they might’ve taken some elements from Star in the “Lost Boys” movie to create Mollie.  In particular the bit about having the little kid with her.

The pilot will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke who has some notable classics under her belt like “Lords of Dogtown” and “Thirteen” and she also has some vampire experience having directed . . . “Twilight.”  Uh, hmm.

Aside from “Twilight,” Hardwicke has directed some compelling youth stories.  An adaptation of “The Lost Boys” could be a perfect fit for her, but for now I’m just taking a wait and see approach.

The pilot is also being written by Heather Mitchell whose previous credits include “Chicago Code,” “Medium,” and “Scandal.”  So a bit of a diverse background there.

Stay tuned as we await more casting details.  Personally, I’m really eager to see who they’ll cast as David.
