Anderson Talks Castlevania and Resident Evil 4

Paul W.S. Anderson has never been very popular among fans. In a way he is kind of prolific like say a Michael Bay or Uwe Boll. People for one reason are another do not like him. One could say he single handedly crushed everyones dreams of a really fantastic idea for AVP. But now that its behind him he is looking forward to newer projects.

One such project is Castlevania which he will produce. Unfortunately the movie has been plagued by the sale of Rogue and last falls writers guild strike things got pushed out. Now there is a possiblity of a Screen Actors Guild strike looming. So Rogue Pictures is no longer involved but Sylvan White is still attached to direct. Anderson spoke with IGN about where the film is headed.

"We still want to make the movie, but I can't say we're going into production in January or anything like that. It's a project that everybody likes. I love the videogame. I think the script is really strong. Everyone is really enthusiastic about it, but we're still in the process of deciding when the movie gets shot," Anderson explained.

When Resident Evil 4 was brought up he seemed to get rather defensive about the project. I don't know if the guy can take criticism very well but it seems like he has taken it pretty hard. He says he is working on the script right now and is working closely with Capcom.

"Once again we're doing it completely with the blessing of the videogame company. We got a lot of flack [on the sequels] for, 'Why isn't the movie set in the mansion just exactly like the very first videogame?' That's just not progression for me. As the Resident Evil videogames themselves have developed in leaps and bounds -- it's like when we did the last movie people were like, 'Resident Evil doesn't take place in the desert. What the (expletive) is this?' Well, where does Resident Evil take place? Does it take place in Raccoon City exclusively? Well, I don't think so because the game has been in Antarctica, in Raccoon City, now it's in Africa."

Well they certainly don't leave the impression that it takes place in the same world when Jill Valentine pops up in the middle of nowhere. My feeling on this is that if the fans want a movie based in the mansion.. why not give it to them? Is it so hard to actually make a film that the fans want to see?
