Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet Review
6 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Suspiria_89

Ever since I saw the trailer on this site, I've been wanting to see Blood Night Legend of Mary Hatchet.  The trailer made it look like a gory blood filled slasher that resembled the one's we all know and love from the 70's and 80's. So I had very high hopes for Blood Night but I must say I'm kind of dissapointed. Blood Night wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be.

Plot: Stemmming from the real life Long Island legend of Mary Hatchet, Blood Night tells the tale of a group of teenagers enjoying their annual Blood Night festivities, when they come face to face with the reality of Mary's murderous ghost. One by one the teens begin to disappear and meet their horrible fates. As the body count rises, so do the unanswered questions about their missing friends and the secrets of Mary's horrifying past. Is there more to this legend than the vengeful ghost of Mary Hatchet and if so who will survive to tell the terrifying tale? I'm sure you're all dying to know.(sorry, I just couldn't resist.)

I'll start with the good things. What are some of the things we expect from a slasher movie? Oh yeah, blood, gore and of course boobs. Well, Blood Night as all of those things. The body count is high and some of the gore effects are awesome. We see eyeballs stabbed out, intestines ripped out, hands cut off and a couple of heads are split apart. And there is plenty of T&A. Blood Night also as a pretty good plot thats fairly original. The acting is also good by some of the cast members. Especially  Danielle Harris and Bill Moseley. And I have to mention the twist. I'm not going to give anything away but Blood Night has a great twist ending.

Now the bad things, which unfortunately out weigh the good. First off, the dialogue is terrible. It's very uninteresting and for the most part stupid. The same thing goes with characters. Almost all of them are boring, stupid and uninteresting. At one point in the movie one of the characters actually decorates his house with Tampons. I shit you not. I guess the makers thought this would be funny, but it wasn't. The only character in the movie that is actually fun and stands out is Bill Moseley's character. All the rest suck and there's so many of them we dont' get to know any of them. The next problem is with the middle of the movie. It's very dull. Mostly because of the uninteresting characters and the terrible dialogue. For about thirty minutes straight, all we see are a bunch of dumbass people partying. But that's not the main problem. The main problem is the atmosphere. It just doesn't have the same atmosphere as the slashers from the 80's.

Overall Blood Night: Legend of Mary Hatchet is a forgettable slasher movie. It's not necessairly a bad movie, it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. If anyone is interested in seeing the movie you can buy a copy at Amazon.com. To my knowledge that is the only place selling the movie right now.
