Suzy’s 5 Best Films of 2011

There weren’t too many great horror movies in 2011 but there were some rare occasions where I was blown away by some fantastic films. So here they are, my top five in no particular order.

Scream 4

I’ve been a huge fan of the Scream franchise for as long as I can remember. So when I heard that Wes Craven was directing a fourth Scream, I was so excited. And for the most part, it didn’t disappoint me. It was exciting. It brought back the three characters that I’ve grown to love over the course of the three previous films. Even though the killers disappointed me in the end, I would still count this as a high note for 2011. Unfortunately, Scream 5 seems to be happening; something that is completely unnecessary.

Paranormal Activity 3

I saw the first film back when it came out and couldn’t sleep for a week. It was the same with the second film and now, this one. Paranormal Activity 3 did not disappoint me once. I jumped so many times and at some points, could not even look at the screen. These movies just get to me and bringing kids into the picture is even more terrifying.

Grave Encounters

I first watched this by myself in my room in the dark and once it ended, I had a hard time falling asleep. For something that is so cheesy, it really affected me. I am easily scared by mockumentaries and found footage films and this one had me out of my seat at certain parts. Yes, some of the film itself is a bit too CGI for my taste but all in all, I really enjoyed this movie.

Chillerama

I just had the pleasure of watching this film today on Netflix Instant. I had heard so many mixed reviews on this movie and I can safely say that I fell in love with it. It had gore, horror, humor, and even musical numbers (which I could have done without). Directors Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Tim Sullivan and Adam Rifkin each did their own segments and combined them in a way that was incredible. The twist was pretty awesome and the stories themselves were great. I was cracking up listening to Hitler speak gibberish instead of actual German and the Wadzilla had me laughing and cringing at the same time. I definitely need to buy this on DVD and I think you all should do the same.

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings

I’m not too big of a fan of the Wrong Turn franchise. Give me one and this one and I’m content. I liked how this was a prequel. I liked that it gave a back story to fill the gaps on what we were missing. The only thing I didn’t really like where the characters and how they all seemed the same to me. But it made it more enjoyable when they were all killed. This is a movie everyone should check out if they liked Wrong Turn.
