Truly Terrifying Christmas Horror Movies

Herner Klenthur 12 Comments

Santa’s coming for some of you depending on your personal beliefs and so is the holiday season and that means its time for you to sit down and enjoy some holiday cheer and mayhem.

Whether you celebrate the holiday or not you will still find pleasure hopefully in checking out these Christmas horror movies that deliver no sugar, no spice just pure evil ( and a few laughs )

These movies have Santa, Jack Frost, Silent Night and so much more… the catch is… all of these Christmas movies have murderous intentions. Without further ado here are some real gem Christmas Horror Christmas Movies you should see!

Rare Exports

This horror classic from Finland is a truly great film from top to bottom. Set in the Korvatunturi Mountains a group of locals inadvertently unleashes an ancient evil that has been hidden in the mountain for decades. That ancient evil is…. SANTA!

Rare Exports is brutal and crafty with excellent production values and has some of the scariest elves you have ever seen. Did we mention it has a Santa Demon as well?

Steven C Miller’s Silent Night

Steven Miller’s Silent Night will probably never win any filmmaking awards but that doesnt change the fact that this is one of the better remakes made. Featuring some great tongue in cheek humor and plenty of gore in Steven’s remake of the 80′s horror classic Santa is out for revenge and it wont be pretty.

Sint AKA Saint

Sint brings us back to the roots of good old Saint Nick and tells us the actual history of the man long before he was flying around with elves and bells and delivering gifts. The catch is that ‘Sint’ or the Saint was far from a portly and jolly old fellow instead he was a demon out for the souls of children.

In Sint good old Saint Nicholas is a murderous bishop who kidnaps and murders children when there is a full moon on December 5.

Santa Slay:

Santa Slay is the perfect Christmas movie. Bill Goldberg stars as the kind of Santa that nobody wants to believe in. Rather then being a jolly fat man in red this Santa is a ripped and deranged demon out to destroy not just Christmas but the world.

Hell bent on destroying the world Santas Slay is all kinds of b-movie awesomeness and is the perfect film to kick off your Christmas Movie Horror Holidays! This movie is so terrible its awesome.

Black Christmas:

Really how can you go wrong with the ultimate classic Christmas movie. A sorority of girls finds that things are not so jolly when a deranged killer starts calling on the phone and soon follows it up with some grizzly killings.

This 1974 Canadian horror movie directed by Bob Clarke and written by Roy Moore is one of the true greats in the horror genre and happens to also be about Christmas.

Gremlins

People argue that Gremlins is not a horror movie and to that I counter what is not scary about little reptilian monsters that want to eat the flesh off your face?

Gremlins is easily one of the best comedic horror movies ever made.I mean how can you not love a movie about a cuddly little pet that when fed after midnight multiplies into hundreds of hungry and psychopathic monsters. I loved all the Gremlins movies but the first one is a real Christmas delight.

Dont Open Till Christmas:

Twas the Night before Christmas and nothing was stirring cause Santa is DEAD! Dont Open till Christmas is a classic horror tale set in England where the christmas spirit has a killer suddenly killing Santas.

In Dont Open Till Christmas it really is a bad day to be the mall santa.

Jack Frost:

Jack Frost has made many of my top lists and is easily one of my favorite b-movies. This is not the family friendly film starring Michael Keaton. Rather this film stars Shannon Elizabeth being ‘abused in the bath tub’ by a deranged killer snow man. Seriously this movie has everything a b-movie should have.

Cheesy one liners, a silly killer in the form of a Snow man named Jack Frost and Shannon Elizabeth as eye candy what isnt there to like? This movie much like Santa Slay is so bad its awesome.

Silent Night Deadly Night:

Nothing is worse then a murderous Santa. In this film much like Santa Slays we find ourselves caught in the cross hairs of a murderous Santa.

This go around its the story of a tormented Teen who goes bananas after his parents are killed and he finds himself abused at the orphanage.  Silent Night… Deadly Night… if this guy lives in your neighborhood your best living 2 blocks over.

There you have it a handful of Holiday Horror Movies to enjoy with the family. Whats on your list?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Rare Exports… my copy is due to arrive tomorrow, can’t wait! Love the rest of the list, great antidotes to the excessive sweetness of the season. Except for Gremlins.

Nothing beats Black Christmas. Probably the scariest film ever made.

Some of these I haven’t had the pleasure of viewing but look forward to checking them out. Thanx for an awesome site for horror fans such as myself. Perhaps Stephen kings “Misery” could be added to this list, bot really bout kill err saint nicks or snowmen but it was set in the December month and Christmas was in the air, idk just a thought. Thanx again! Much love.

I’ve never understood the love for Rare Exports. That was one of the most disappointing movies I’ve ever seen. All the hype and then…..elves who get captured and sold as Santa. Sooooo much potential, but the evil Santa never wakes up, man this movie sucked IMO. Anyways, great list. I would actually add Black Christmas remake. A lot of people hate it because it doesn’t hold a candle to the masterpiece original, but on it’s own I found it to be quite creepy with some great gore and death scenes. I liked the nutcracker phone ringtone throughout the flick too. Anyone see the 80′s or 90′s horror movie about killer Santa’s elves. Was it called Elves?

I was disappointed by Rare Exports as well. Maybe just too much hype. It does make sense when you consider the shorts it was based on, but it could have been so much more. And a little too much of a happy ending!
