The True Story Behind The Conjuring

Movies have an instant added bonus with movie goers when filmmakers put ‘based on a true story’ in front of them. My question is how much of The Conjuring and what happened to the Perron family is based in reality versus fiction? Over the years there have been a ridiculous amount of horror movies based on a true story and in many cases they are one small figment of truth wrapped in a whole bunch of fiction.

For over 20 years Paranormal Investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren and The Perron family have tried to get their story told. Ed Lorraine according to their official website is a demonologist and his wife is a trance medium and together they took on evil spirits and were often called in by the church to fight demons.

The Conjuring which will hit theaters July 19th and is directed by James Wan ( Insidious ) will tell the story of one of their reported battles with demons at the Perron Farm. Jason saw the film and in his review of Conjuring had great things to say about the film writing;

“The Conjuring” is a remarkable film in that it not only pays tribute to the horror films that came before it, but that it also restores a bit of faith in big studio horror films.  Whereas “Insidious” may have been a divisive film amongst horror fans, I think “The Conjuring” will find a greater amount of acceptance.  This is the kind of film that will appease those who say “I wish Hollywood would make the films they used to make.”  I highly recommend that you check it out.

When I first heard about The Conjuring it seemed that James Wan was just doing a sequel to Insidious without directly connecting them. That is clearly not even remotely the truth given the very distinct material in The Conjuring. Although both films are ghost stories James Wan reportedly decided to make The Conjuring because it was a terrifying supernatural movie based on the actual events that terrified the Perron family farm over 20 years ago.

The question is how much of The Conjuring is fact and just how much is fiction?

In a new video that was released by Warner Brothers the Perron family talk about their experiences on the farm. I have no idea what the Perron’s experienced on their farm 20 years ago but they and paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren clearly think that something evil was haunting the farm.  Watch the clip below and then hit the comments and let me know. Do you believe in evil spirits? Do you think a whole family made up this story or are demons amongst us?

This next video shows you the actual farm house as well as comments from all of the family members on what they experienced at the Perron Farm.

As an added bonus for paranormal enthusiast’s below you can watch an interview with Lorraine Warren where she discussed how she met Ed Warren and their life together.

I believe that demons are real. We are foolish to think that what we see right in front of us is all there is. However, I also believe that people are opportunistic, selfish, and deceptive. In a world where people like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton can be famous for nothing at all, the lure of wealth and attention can be motivation enough for people to perpetuate all manner of half-truths and out-right lies. About this case specifically, I have no idea. But I always advocate healthy, balanced skepticism.

The Conjuring is real. We live in a very haunted house and deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis. We have seen things that most people only see in movies. We wanted to share our experiences with the world. We have decided to video all of the paranormal experiences we could. We now have 11 videos in total. We still are filming every week. Here is a link to one of our videos. http://youtu.be/Fss9GwtybcU Let us know your thoughts please!

          Thank you,

Having as a child and even in my teens I have had my own experiences which I live with. Yes there are possible things we can’t explain. But rhink that this was real or not I have my own opinions of. But in all fairness one should not capitalize on the notion or idea of evil or demonic spirits. These type of claims are yes hard to swallow. Residue appearances and other such paranormal activity is more likely than an actual demonic type. One must realize fact or true accounts based on evidence and those of gain from movies. No actual based fact on the Amity home other than the family being shot but no actual proof of true hauntings. One does have to use his her own judgement and to have an open mind and yet to have facts pertaining to this and other fact based novies too know the difference or realize that most MB material is blown out of proportion. As for my own experiences a one time event that can’t ever be explained doesn’t consist of an intensity or an evil presence and yes most events can be disproved. So what I did experience can offer other explatiins than that of spirits or evil entities. What the other owners of the same homes experience should be looked at closer. But this is written in an unbiased form and only to make others realize that yes things may go bump in the night but does this mean that their are spiriits or evil behind these? There are other causes and explanations to be looked at.So please use your own judgement that there are other answers explanations to consider as well.

Dear Herner ~ On behalf of my entire family, thank you for the fine and balanced reporting in this article. For the purpose of clarification, “The Conjuring” IS based on a “true story”…our story. However, the film is not based on my trilogy “House of Darkness House of Light”. It is, instead, based upon the case files of Ed & Lorraine Warren. They conducted an investigation of our home between 1973-74 and the movie tells our story from their perspective. I welcome the inclusion of the video which involves my mother, as it introduces your readers to her in a way which will enhance their appreciation of the film. There is no conceivable way to condense what we as a family endured in the farmhouse into a two-hour motion picture but James (Wan) captured the essence of it and for this I will remain eternally grateful. I’ll tell you what’s scary — turning your life story over to strangers with the stroke of a pen on a contract. Mortified by the notion, I took the ultimate leap of faith. Though Mrs. Warren and I both provided the studio with more information than they could handle, the screenwriters had much to pick & choose from, amalgamating it into a cohesive rendering which I am proud of, having been privileged to see it as a private screening last March. The film is amazing and nothing anyone expects. It is a fair reflection of the chaos and danger we faced at the farm. The entire true story is chronicled in the books but the movie stands alone as a work of art — not fiction. There are liberties taken and a few discrepancies but overall, it is what it claims to be — based on a true story, believe it or not. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or comments and once again, thank you for your fair and consistent treatment in this piece. Yours in spirit ~ Andrea

Andrea thanks for sharing details on your experience and from what perspective the film presents it :)

I believe the spiritual world is real because it is spoken of many times in the bible and in different cultures. Thank you for sharing your story and I know it’s real because I have experienced things regarding demonic spirits before but not like your family. I once had a friend’s Mother start to convulse when I gave her a healing cloth from my church. I had never seen anything like that before face to face and it scared the crap out of me. However I was able to pray and rebuke it but that wasn’t the calling I wanted for my life after experiencing that and I learned so much from it and I remember my grandma always told me, Mija which is like sweetheart in Spanish, She said “Remember good always prevails and evil can never win and the enemy has power when you allow him to have power.” I remember I didn’t understand until that day my friends Mother started saying things in Spanish to me and convulsing. I remember she told me to get out of her house because I bring him with me. She was talking about the presence of God and she was trying to run at me. They had to hold her down and like I said I remember thinking “Om my God I just want to run and get out of here”, however for some weird strange reason I got upset and like this holy anger came over me and I opened my mouth and said things I never said before. All I remember is right after we went to talk with my grandma about it and she explained so much to us about the spiritual world and how God talk brings God on the scene and evil talk brings the devil on the scene. I took a class on spiritual warfare and learned so much and I remember thinking this crap is fake and this isn’t true until I experienced it myself and I was like ok I’m never saying that again. So I believe that this story is true and that the spiritual world is real. Thank you for sharing your story and allowing it to be shown in a scary movie. I know Hollywood is using it to scare people and so forth but at the same time it is bringing to attention that this sort of thing is real and has happened before regardless if you believe or not. I’m just happy you guys are safe and can enjoy your life without all the supernatural things happening. I know I much rather see angels and good spirits than have to deal with something like that ever again but it was a learning experience. I wish you and your family all the best!

I am always interested in films like this especially when they are based on true events……..but then on the other hand I am very sceptical, especially after the revelations of ”The Amityville Horror’ which turned out to be total fabrication. I have watched the trailer and it looks very good and I hope the family are pleased with the end result and there aren’t too many discrepancies I look forward to watching the movie with a very open mind. :)

        • Herner Klenthur June 30, 2013 at 7:25 pm

I had no idea that the Warren’s had anything to do with the Amityville horror or the fact the whole ‘real story’ was completely made up. I will have to do some reading. Thanks for the comments.

      5. NEARKeith July 1, 2013 at 12:04 am

With the upcoming release of “The Conjuring” I am excited to share some of my won remembrances on this topic. And I am so happy to be reunited with Andrea after all these years; she is like a sister to me. :)

At the time I was 18 years old, and was a member of an organization called Parapsychology Investigation and Research Organization based at Rhode Island College. I’d placed an ad in a local newspaper regarding our services, and it was answered by Carolyn Perron three weeks later, which was how we became involved in her situation. It did not take long to discover that this was the REAL DEAL, and that genuine, incredible spirit activity was taking place within this house… something which these family members had to live with on a daily and nightly basis! Although we were a young college-age organization, we assured them we would do all we could to help.
Once we’d investigated and realized the genuine validity of the phenomena taking place, I suggested and began discussing with other member the possibility of consulting with our friends Ed and Lorraine Warren, because of their years of experience and valued advice. When things became overwhelming for Carolyn, Donna, our chairperson of P.I.R.O., did just that, and contacted Ed and Lorraine. Ed and Lorraine did more that just consult with us; they became personally involved in the case as well.

      7. Angela July 1, 2013 at 3:21 am

I have personally experienced , first the denial, then acceptance of living in a “haunted” house. I have come to believe that , in my situation, the homes I lived in were not haunted, but rather I am. I have been touched by unseen hands, violated, physically and mentally scarred, terrified and in most cases ridiculed for opening up and disclosing my experiences to friends and family. I admire the courage of the Perron family for coming out and sharing their story with the world. It is not an easy thing to do when these entities try to isolate you and make you question all that you believe. I can attest that these spirits attach themselves to individuals who have a strong faith in God in an attempt to sever their devotion to the Lord.

        • melissa March 10, 2014 at 5:35 pm

Angela I also thought I was haunted for the longest time! I had a breakdown, only then to find out all the stress and bad stuff I was careing around into head was makeing me hallucinat ! W counsling and meds I no longer have the really bad hallucinations! Being touched, violated, hearing voices etc! Please go talk to a mental health professional! I wasn’t made fun of and niether will u!

Seriously? Perhaps nice entertainment, especially for teens, but don’t insult my intelligence by claiming any of this is real. While there may be otjer realms of existence, there is absolutely no proof of interaction with ours. Let alone such a negative one as this. Do you even question why all other “true” horror stories are disproved? Because none if them are real…. though maybe that’s just the demons in me typing this on the Net.

        • Herner Klenthur July 1, 2013 at 11:31 am

I believe in what I can see and you are quite right that most ‘true story’ ghost stories have hardly been proven true.

        • rebecca August 22, 2013 at 4:31 pm

Really? Just because you don’t believe doesn’t make this a fabrication. these evils exist with or without your belief in them.

        • ashley dellinger November 3, 2013 at 9:37 am

Well I can say I was always a skeptoc on ghosts until I had a bottle cap fly off my table and hit me on the face. My husband and best friend both seen it too…maybe there’s a reasonanle explanation I’d love to hear it. But even with that havong happened infond myself torn sometimes becuase its just so outside of our comfort zone and everythinf we are taught to beleive. If we can’t see it its not real right? There’s no santa or tooth fairy? But there is indeed an afterlife and too many people have had ghost interactions to call it crap.

I just want to say “Thank You” to you, Andrea and your family for sharing your personal, family story with us and your life and letting us, the audience join in, see and experience a piece of what you and your family experienced. For that, I am so thankful. It not only increases our knowlegde of the supernatural but it helps validate so many countless others who have gone through the same types of things and experiences. Thank you so much Andera for sharing a part of your life with us. I’m forever grateful for brave, courageous, survivors like you and your family! Godbless you always in all that you do!

      10. sarah July 4, 2013 at 1:19 am

I cannot understand why anyone would STAY in a house that was this ‘haunted’ , instead of leaving and staying in a hotel, with friends, family, etc. That is the only part that makes me doubt many of these stories. If they were true, a sane and reasonable person would have left and got the heck out of there.

        • Jim Laca July 10, 2013 at 5:53 pm

That is my same gripe with all of these “Based on a true story” movies and stories. The first thing I would have done is bail out of there. After that I would call the local news and have them come and set up shop. If I had a legit haunting, I would want everyone else to know. I never understood why people would want to get rid of the ghost/demon without getting some major evidence. Or even leaving it there for all others to experience.

        • Mike Daws July 14, 2013 at 9:48 am

In this case the thing would follow them. Changing houses would have done no good and it tells you that in this movie as well and why they follow them. Also in Amityville case they took off and left everything behind. Also its pretty damn hard to just pack up your family and bounce. Most people cant afford to just pack up and leave a house they sunk all their money into. I am not saying that ghosts are real, nor am I saying these things really happened. I think there really could be ghosts. I wont be close-minded enough to say they dont exist though.

      11. Edgar July 4, 2013 at 1:50 am

i do believe in demons the devil has his demons torturing us everyday with everyone and it says in the pentecostal bible where he wants to destroy us but i have faith in GOD in the name of Jesus the demon will not touch the Perron family i will keep you guys in prayer.

      12. cathy duke July 5, 2013 at 4:52 pm

I think there are many things in this life that people don’t see. People just need to remember that God is all powerful, and God is alive and well, and with us always. This comes from my own experience with what could only have been a demon, A Holy presence was in the room with me, and way more powerful than this demon. A very unique experience that I will never forget. Thank you God !

        • Jacob August 5, 2013 at 4:47 am

That’s funny. God is all powerful and yet let this happened to a family. Clearly god doesn’t care what happens to us or isn’t all powerful… Or he doesn’t exist and this story, though possibly based on true events, was blown out of proportion over the years and the actual events were a lot less extreme then what this family claims to have happened. Memories are very unreliable. This has been proven over and over. What I always find amazing is how people jump to the supernatural explanation rather than consider the natural explanations. I don’t accept anything as fact until there is evidence for it. I am actually skeptical unlike a lot of claimed skeptics where I don’t accept the world of demons and spirits since there is absolutely no good evidence for the existence of it other than “I can’t believe this is all there is.” I am not saying that this story is not true. I am just saying there is no reliable evidence for it. I am not saying there is no spirit world. I am saying there is no reliable evidence for it, and personal stories are not evidence because not only may you be remembering the details incorrectly, you are a biased source that, from the perspective of others, may be lying. Even lying to yourself. Always ask how do I know this is true and if you don’t have an answer other than “it’s the only thing that makes sense,” or “It just feels true,” then you don’t know it is true.

        • Kaddison August 5, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Jacob, Jacob, Jacob, what I find interesting is how the Hathiests ask suffering people WHY would God allow this to happen! Well, Jacob………..that is where you fail to understand the Bible and God! God is NOT hear to make our life on earth wonderful, plentiful, and grand! Man is given “freewill” to do what ever they want. We also know from what the Bible tells us that the Devil is here on earth roaming like a lion. It is the Devil and his demons along with mans poor decisions responsible for the chaos on earth………..NOT God! The reward for living a good HOLY life comes when we leave this awful place………not while we are here!

        • Christine Rose Hodgson August 18, 2013 at 4:07 am

Then why are we here? If we are here just to suffer and be tested only to be brought to a better place later why do we go to earth at all? I understand god giving free will but the devil or his demons attacking a family wasn’t their choice haha it’s different if they got shot by another human being that would be freewill however it was gods enemies that attacked this family so why wouldn’t he come down and help them considering he made us and made the devil and it should be his responsibility to step in.

I honestly want to believe in something more but there’s just not enough. The fact that god was so involved in human lives in the past and yet the smarter humans get the less we see about him, meaning the more we prove that none of it is true.

        • Kaddison August 19, 2013 at 1:11 am

Christine Rose Hodgson in reply to your August 18, 2013 at 4:07 am post where you asked….

“Then why are we here? If we are here just to suffer and be tested only to be brought to a better place later why do we go to earth at all? I understand god giving free will but the devil or his demons attacking a family wasn’t their choice haha it’s different if they got shot by another human being that would be freewill however it was gods enemies that attacked this family so why wouldn’t he come down and help them considering he made us and made the devil and it should be his responsibility to step in”.

In the beginning OUR purpose was part of a very different plan. But plans change, especially when freewill is involved. You made comment about demons attacking a family is not their choice BUT getting shot by another human would be freewill. Well Christine, a man coming into your home with a gun is his “freewill” but not yours! Even Satan had freewill and his behavior and desire to take over was why he was removed from Heaven with 1/3 of the Angels (now demons)! It was obvious the plan God had and the ability to have freewill collided. He could have conformed us to be HIS way but then he might as well created robots! Life isn’t perfect. But everything we dream of ………living forever, never getting sick, never growing old, a place with mansions, streets of gold, ect. is a REAL place for those that strive to go there by their will and dedication. You also asked why doesn’t God sweep down and save people from demons and bad things! Again, that would be interfering and for now as the Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”. In the Old Testament signs and proof were made known to the people. But even then with proof in their face many were afraid to believe. I, once like you, did not believe. I know different today and also know I don’t have all the answers. Just like the Scientists don’t! Most people don’t want to believe because they don’t like rules, they don’t want to change things in their life considered sinful, don’t believe what they can’t see! Most people pray for things when it is too late……like misssing a child and praying for them to come home alive but the child is already dead. Lots of bad things happen here. Will not change regardless of your faith. God gets me through all the bad…….everytime! I hate using mess boards meant for posting something “like this movie” and use it to bash religion and God. I only respond when the mess attacks me and my belief. I am not on here to try to change someones mind……freewill is something we all have. Evil does exist. Has to involve the Devil or demons when someone abducts a child for their own sick pleasures and kills a innocent being. Exist when someone like Gary Ridgeway picks up desperate women and kills them……but goes back days after their death and has sex with them while the body is decaying……that can’t be a human desire. We are tempted but up to us to turn off the temptation. Take care!!! :)

      13. Yolanda July 7, 2013 at 6:05 pm

For your mental health & stability please don’t ever doubt the existence of demonic/evil spirits. But always know to call on the name of The Most High and he WILL protect you! Father, in the name of your son, keep close to your children and guide us on that straight & narrow path only to you. In Jesus’ name I pray dear Lord, AMEN.

To me there is no doubt that demons and evil spirits exist. It says so in the Holy Bible. I have had a few personal encounters with ghost myself. I hope to The Holy Father that no one ever has to deal with the demons the Perron family had to go through. You are all very blessed to survive an experience such as this. God bless you all

      15. Renee Garcia (@Renee72956) July 8, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I believe in ghost and demons and so forth. I have seen ghost but never been haunted. If you are a god fearing person how can you possibly deny that these things happen ? have you seen God ? no but you still believe in him, even to those who doubt ?? as was said earlier even the bible says these things are real. If your going to believe in one you have to believe in the other. like night and day. Can’t wait to see the movie !!!

      16. Nope July 9, 2013 at 4:43 am

Yeah if you want to set up evidence that this movie is 100% accurate in retelling the truth, don’t post the same comments by the same people almost verbatim on different websites. It’s just a movie so stop posting the same comment about how you claim to have met the Perron Family and etc on every single forum about the true story behind the movie. You’re probably as delusional as the nuts that claim to see demons.

        • keva July 14, 2013 at 5:48 pm

Delusional nuts, huh. How fortunate of you to be so utterly clueless. How very fortunate of you.

I believe. In 1997 my friends grandma passed on. Before the burial they opened the foot of the coffin and cut a rope that was tied around her ankles. I was curious so I asked.
“why the rope”? My friend said it was their belief that it bound the sport here and before they buried their love ones they cut the rope to release their spirit.
Later that evening I stayed the night with my friend for comforting. I went to sleep on the couch and around 3 am the room free cold. I opened my eyes to see his grandma there in the hall looking at me. It scared the crap out ofm n I went to sleep in my truck. I believe because I’ve seen. Ghost are real.

      18. Tiffy July 10, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Surprising lack of comments here claiming it all a load of rubbish – unless it is all a wind-up and I fell for it. Whilst I love ghost & demon horror and find them some of the most terrifying – that’s only because of the relationship between viewer and storyteller. I temporarily suspend my disbelief in order to appreciate a film.

        But back in reality…

…there are many strange and curious unexplained phenomenon – none of which would give any suggestion of ‘spirit’s or ‘demons’. I am completely open minded to the possibility of alternate dimensions and invisible beings capable of doing extraordinary things.. that may SEEM demonic or supernatural to the simple minded.. but are something entirely natural instead. The Sun itself was worshiped as a God for many eons so the idea that there are probably quite simple reasons for things in relation to what can be perceived as Supernatural phenomena is entirely plausible.

Some may have experienced what they think are ghosts and demons.. but the interpretation relies upon preconditioned spiritual belief (either conscious or not). Therefore – any attempt to explain things by those experiencing the event is framed within the context of their spiritual beliefs using self-selecting bias – wheres other explanations that may be available are disregarded or ignored.

I have been raised in a Lutheran family, so yes I believe in God and the devil. There is no doubt in my mind that dark and malevolent spirits can interact with our world. Don’t get me wrong, of course when they say “based on a true story” in front of the title of a movie like this you can’t help but wonder how much of it us actually true. But how can you not believe when you have a firsthand account from the family it happened to? I just don’t get it. Not to offend anyone who doesn’t believe, but just because you’ve never seen a ghost doesn’t mean they aren’t real. Just because I’ve never seen God doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in Him. And in reply to Father Karras, there has been plenty of proof of interaction between humans and spirits. I would recommend you look up the true story of “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”. If you feel really adventurous watch the movie. Again the movie isn’t totally accurate, but it’s definitely moving enough to test anything you believe. She was a young girl raised in a very strict Catholic family. When she moved away from home she began to experience the supernatural until she finally becomes possessed. This is where my faith is ultimately tested because in the Bible it says anyone who has the Lord Jesus in their heart cannot be harmed by the devil. But she endured the possession of 7 spirits until she died. In her account by her pastor she wrote in her diary that she was visited by Mother Mary who gave her a choice. She could either leave the earth to be with the Lord or she could stay and suffer the pain and anguish of her possession. She chose to stay on earth and suffer so that people would hear and learn of her story and know that God, the devil and evil spirits/demons are real. So don’t undermine the stories of others simply because you don’t believe. That makes you look bad and makes those people’s memory one of shame. Believe what you may, but keep your opinions to yourself unless you want deal with the consequences.

I haven’t read the book/books or have seen the movie. I did see a handful of pre-views on TV. Lorraine is a very dedicated women and I know she is sincere in helping many who have in fact, been ‘effected’ by demons and the like there of. Ever since grade school, when my mom first went to our local Parish Priest for advice, I have believed. As an adult, I keep blessed salt and holy water, known as sacrementals to the Catholic church, for protection. Along with them, I have plenty of blessed rosary’s and St. Michael medals, among other very helpful and useful items of my faith. My family, parents and siblings didn’t want to ever talk about ‘it’. Thinking that would bring ‘it’ around more. Never knew what ‘it’ was until, I began my walk of faith, after being touched one too many times. Just know, God is good all the time!

I tend to take all “ghost stories” with a grain of salt and with the knowledge that all people tend to embellish any story of interest. That being said I have had my own experiences and I’m not willing to argue the existence of a world beyond our own. It most definitely exists. But praise be to God, it rarely leaks into our own, and when it does it is not with the intensity that this movie portrays.

I believe there are things in this world that cannot be explained by reason or science. Good and evil exist and if you are fortunate Angels will show themselves and demons will stay at bay. I have experienced both to some extent, thankfully there are those who are willing to share their experiences with the world so we may learn about the strange and supernatural. Can’t wait to see the movie.

      24. brenna July 13, 2013 at 3:01 pm

There are many things that people can say they have seen then there are people that know what they have seen and can really understand what they have gone through. And truth be told i believe this with no doubt. There are evil things out there even.if you can’t see it and until you see it for yourself you will.not completely understand. God be with you parrin family.

I believe & am fascinated by the supernatural. I experienced a handfull of encounters as a child in my childhood home. They were evil supernatural encounters that left me afraid of the dark still to this day. I’m 35 years old. I didn’t know as a child, but there is TRUE power in the name Jesus. Rebuking evil in the name of Jesus is a good tool. I suspect there are people who are experiencing evil supernatural events in their lives now & are here reading because who would ever believe them. It’s difficult, but remove fear & angrily rebuke what you see in the Name of Jesus. Believe it will work & it will. God bless & keep you

One night we stayed in some friends rv. We argued. about the space above the cab because I wanted to sleep. up there. He put a bunch of boxes there. We listened to the art bell show . The show. was about a haunted house. story. Later i went to bed. I woke up and saw all the boxes removed and him sleeping with his foot dangling over the side. I was furious. I reached out and touched his foot grabbing it. I felt the hair that sticks out of this one part of his foot.. I went to bed. In the morning all the boxes were back in their spot. By the distance of my bed to the space above the cab i realized the foot was a demons foot. And the thing i saw was not real. I believe we had opened a door to demonic abuse by our arguing and listening to ghost. stories.

I’m sorry but just putting “based on a true story” before a work of fiction doesn’t make it real…the family name used in the film may be the only thing based on actual facts, the rest is 100% fictional events to scare the ticket buyer…a good previous example of this would be An American haunting, yes based on an actual story but the entire movie was made up nonsense not true to the real story at all…I think moviegoers should go see The Conjuring (I will myself) but take it with a grain of salt, it is a hollywood production afterall and studios need to make money.

My aunt had said once that she had seen the devil we never belived her and on June 6,2006 she died in her room of suffication RIP , 1934-2006 died, (666) that is very strange

Total BS. To all of you who claim to have experienced real live hauntings, demons or any other supernatural phenomena … GET PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP!!! You need it.

      30. Mary Franta (@RiverBoatQueen) July 20, 2013 at 3:22 am

Not all spirits that occupy a home are evil or intend to do harm. We have a wonderful ghost who protects us and likes to walk up the stairs, which makes them creak and moan. I feel so sorry that this family had to endure years of abject terror. I would have thrown in the towel much sooner than they had! Anyhow – that Annabell doll ought to find a roaring fire and somebody throw her into it. God bless.

      31. Viki Reynolds July 21, 2013 at 5:12 am

This is all so true and that’s what makes it so frightening… evil spirits can inhabit us and influence us. They hang all around us waiting for the opportunity to pounce,,,, the weakest are of us are their targets.

All i know is my uncle dug up a wagon wheel and some animal bones in his quest to find gold on grandfathers property and later that evening as I was waiting for my friends to pick me up i saw a black figure of a dog with pointed ears and red glowing eyes move towards me. It made me freeze up for a moment before i got a hold myself ran back in the house turned on our outside and could find no foot prints or the dog. Around that same time my sister was coming home late one evening and she heard the sound of a dog running with chains dragging behind her she got in the house turned on all the outside lights but could find nothing. The activity stopped once we had the property blessed by a priest and we reburied what my uncle had unearthed. I had never believed in all the things my mom said had happened on the property till that night. My grandfather had said when he purchased the property back in the 1920’s that it might have been an indian burial ground. God bless the Perron’s .

      34. Leona July 23, 2013 at 12:39 am

Believe or don’t believe….Ghosts stories, demonic activity or something as simple as a friends’ crazy story from a wild Saturday night; if you have to see to believe then by default you have no faith. Good cannot exist without evil; for as everyone knows for every action there must be an opposite reaction. It is a personal choice to believe or not to believe on any subject but discounting anyone elses experience is simply rude, obnoxious and uneducated. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you were the only one that noticed something and then when you speak of it others look at you like you are crazy? or have you ever felt ill but no doctor could diagnose the problem? Being disregarded for something without opposite proof is insulting and in bad taste….if you have never experienced anything but regular, non-eventful, non-experienced, non-emotional daily routine then it is my opinion that you are not really “living” but just getting by – just saying….and of course it goes without saying everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Specifically with regards to this movie; my husband and I saw it on Saturday. We both felt that is was quite well made and very subtle in it’s “horror movie” content. I don’t usually see these types of movies but like many others I was drawn to it because of it’s “based on a true story” claim.
Throughout my childhood and well into my early teen years my father was “possessed” for lack of a less threatening term. How do I know this? Because I saw, the devil/evil/bad/destructive/irregular/unheard of/ ungodly in his face, his actions and his behavior on a regular basis for years. As did my brothers, my sister, my mother, the people who came to live with us to help, the priests, the mediums….
Like many others who share their experience on this subject I don’t seek to be heard, understood, believed or be sympathized with I simply seek to inform others in case they ever experience something similar they know who to turn to for help or guidance and not feel as alone and as helpless as my family felt.

      35. Eric July 23, 2013 at 2:55 am

It’s hard to believe the things they are purporting to have happened in this film, but the family seems to be standing by the facts of the film, that they were physically attacked by demons, and that Mrs. Perron was possessed and tried to kill her kids, and was almost killed y the demon herself, and that one of the girls was dragged across the living room by her hair, and that last part was supposedly filmed by the Warrens and helped to qualify them for an official exorcism… My question would be, Where is this actual footage of what happened that the movie shows the Warren’s team got at their home? Is the police man still alive for questioning? How about the other young man that was helping the Warrens? This all would provide much more evidence as to the truth. And did the Warrens really have to rush home in the middle of their investigation because their child was being attacked by a killer doll in their house?? These folks have issues…or not…. All sounds too fantastic to me. It’s really bad information that Ed Warren displays when he starts attributing things to witches from Salem…those people were long ago absolved of being witches, or doing any ‘evil’ wrong doing….they were innocent folks entrapped by an ignorant and superstitious society. And real Witches aren’t in to Satan anyway. They don’t even believe in Satan.

        • Shlayer August 4, 2013 at 6:53 am

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Most of the so called “Salem witches” were wrongfully accused but some actually confessed they had practiced black magic and satanic rituals. And to say witches aren’t into Satan is only half true. Some self proclaimed witches and warlocks worship Satan as their God. Please do more research before acting smart on a post. Look up the religion of Satanism. Peace out

I watched The Conjuring Movie and saw that it was based on a true story that happened in Harrisville Rhode Island, so I decided to go check out the old farm house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okCr61sYpsI

      37. Lucy July 30, 2013 at 1:29 am

Yes, I believe we live in a spiritual world. When I watched the movie ‘The Conjuring’ it was like watching my life story. I have seen and heard spirtual beings my entire life, Angels and Demons. I actually turned to my friend who was with me at the time and asked, “Now, do you believe me?” I follow only God so I fear nothing and I fear no one. My only surprise is that it has happened to someone other than me. And yes, I always sleep with the light on just so I can see them coming.

      38. Kaddison July 30, 2013 at 4:21 am

There are a lot of things we do not understand. I believe in Angels and Demons! I have experienced several unnatural events as well as a couple events similar to the ones the Perron family experienced. It has been over 20 yrs and still difficult to talk about. Watching the movie brought back the fear as well as the reminder to the skepticism expressed by some close to us. I believe there are others that have faced demons too but keep their mouths closed. Closed…….for fear of what people will say.! Closed………for fear of bringing whatever it was ……..BACK!

      39. Gilles July 30, 2013 at 7:43 am

I watched the movie yesterday and it was a good popcorn movie if you like horror movie. I always laugh out loud when I read “based on a true story”. Anyway, the people in the cinema couldn’t stop making funny comments about the movie so it was more hilarious than scary.

The only persons who believe in that also believe in gods and probably believe in spiritual healing so don’t get frustrated if you are not taken seriously. :)

If you are happy, clap in your hands ! clap clap clap

      40. Miguel K July 30, 2013 at 11:47 am

I cannot say I have encountered any demons, but I believe. I have however encountered spirits or ghosts, and I have experience with mediums, and was very blown away. Believe what you will, but if you never had an experience with a demon, spirit, or ghost, don’t you dare judge anyone. We have no clue what is possible when it comes to the after life. Just the experiences we have had, seeing and feeling. I am amazed at the courage the Perron family has to tell there story, especially this day and age. I’m not glad that had to go through what they did, but to those who judge, I hope you know go through the pain that they did!!!

      41. Gilles July 30, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Whatever. I just find it funny that all those supernatural stuff happened in the past where it is impossible to have proofs of anything. :)

But that’s normal. Increase of technologies = decrease of supernatural.

But if somebody is asking money for his help, you better think about it twice !
People will do anything for money. 😉

In 1977, the 100 + yr old house I lived in was creepy from the first day we moved in. A gift from my in-laws there wasn’t too much I could say! I love antiques and live in a 1945 house today. So it wasn’t the fact it was old that made it creepy. It was the vibes I picked up in the house. The basement one lg room with two smaller rooms. One of the smaller rooms (6×8) I could not enter. I never did enter it. One day, upstairs on the main floor, the chandelier hanging from the 14 ft high ceiling began to go on and off, my cockapoo ran and hid before anything else happened, my 18 mo son began to scream at the top of his lungs, and the house made a loud noise as if it had been picked up and dropped causing a window that had been painted (and dried stuck up a few inches) to come slamming down and break. I thought it was one of the loudest Sonic Booms ever. I went outside and mentioned the sonic boom to my neighbor hanging her laundry. She said she never heard a thing. Creepy! The chandelier switch was one of the old fashion ones with buttons to push. Push in the top button for on and the bottom button for off. We never used this light because it was too bright. My hubby was at work. I called him and when he came in the house the light stopped turning on and off and stayed on. He tried to tell me if was a short in the switch. What about the sonic boom like the one shaking the house in this movie? A few weeks later, the long phone cord began to dance on its own attached to the landline hanging on the wall. My son became more irritable and the dog hid more! My hubby told me our sons crying was upsetting the dog. I told him many times the dog went and hid before our son would even be crying! We had a few friends over and one of them admitted to me that she didn’t like coming to our house. She hated our bathroom and always felt like she was being watched. I had told my hubby the same thing and was afraid to take a bath when he wasn’t at home. Despite my hubbys denial of events he soon changed his mind when one night when we were in bed upstairs he heard someone come in the front door. He heard the old floors creak below and the footsteps coming upstairs and the old wood steps creaking with each step. He had picked up a baseball bat and waited at our door for the person to come on down the hall. When the creaking sounds made it to the top of the steps…..they stopped! He waited and when no one came he walked to the end of the hall………no one was there! We put the house up for sale at a below market value and moved out before anything worse could happen! These are only a few of the many events I experienced. It is easy for people NOT to believe what they can’t see or NEVER experienced! But that doesn’t mean others have not SEEN or EXPERIENCED unnatural things! I now live states away from this house with the scary room and bad vibes. If I ever go back I would like to knock on the door and ask the people living there now if they have ever experienced anything unusual.

        • Gilles July 31, 2013 at 7:44 am

Well, I am looking forward to experiencing that then.

If something like that happened today, people would buy a shitloads of camera and all kind of technologies to prove the existence of all the supernatural things. It would create a buzz and the scientific community will be fast to check the story, the proofs etc etc.

There is not much I can say. I have absolutely no belief about supernatural things because there is absolutely no proof.

Anyway, if this is based on a true story and the people didn’t orchestrate that for money, where are all the proofs of the Warren (videos etc) ?

I don’t believe in the gods that humanity created to explain the things they didn’t understand. Believing in supernatural things like that is the same as believing in gods. There is no proof, it is just faith.

        • Kaddison July 31, 2013 at 3:22 pm

“I don’t believe in the gods that humanity created to explain the things they didn’t understand. Believing in supernatural things like that is the same as believing in gods. There is no proof, it is just faith”. I have a difficult time believing things too………..like explosions that create beauty instead of destruction like the one scientist believe created perfectly round planets floating in space, plant life, and humans male and female capable of recreating! A explosion created …WHAT? I never witnessed it and neither did anyone else! I have a difficult time believing in evolution and those that believe man came from ape (where did the ape come from). People believing in something not witnessed by man! There are ALL kind of fantasies but I prefer to believe in the OLDEST one of all! For someone that has never witnessed the Supernatural…..lucky you…..but just because you have NOT seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. My ex hubby didn’t believe either………until…….it happened to him too!

        • Gilles July 31, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Oh my. Are we really gonna argue about scientific theories and supernatural linked to religions because those supernatural things are from satan and god is the only one who can protect us.

We have more proofs about the big bang theory, the theory of evolution and all kind of scientific theories than supernatural event which is not hard since there is none. You only have what some people told as evidence which is not enough, far from it.

You might have experienced strange things that could probably be explained with enough knowledge about the world we live in which I don’t have. If something like that happens today, write a book, create a buzz and it is has some ground, some of the smartest people in the scientific world will have a look and discover what really happens.

What is the most recent supernatural story of a haunting house ? If somebody claims today that his house is not normal. We have tons of way to check what’s happening. But strangely, it doesn’t happen anymore.

And I just would like to finish by saying that it is not an aggression against you. I’m just trying to explain what I think and I probably don’t use the correct words if you feel that way.

      42. Bobby August 1, 2013 at 3:35 am

Sooooooo I saw the movie but where is the footage the ed and Lorraine had taken for proof that this is real? That’s the only thing I can’t find on the internet!

      43. Crog August 1, 2013 at 12:26 pm

If you believe in ghosts, demons, God, etc., then yes, you’re more likely see, experience hallucinations based on those beliefs. If I believe strongly in Unicorns and I think daily about unicorns, then it’s possible that I will dream about unicorns, see unicorns in the clouds, in my breakfast cereal, and in shadows late at night. Anything unexplained, I would just equate to my faith in unicorns as the explanation. This is what belief, faith, fabricating alternate realities does to people. It’s an excuse to avoid reality and scientific inquiry. It’s the avoidance of personal responsibility, and it is ignorance and cowardice in dealing with the reality of life. Each of us has the ability to create alternate reality by practicing faith, not logic, and focusing our minds on unproven things so much that we cause self hypnosis and hallucinations. This is what religious belief does. It’s the avoidance of reality.

        • Kaddison August 1, 2013 at 4:18 pm

One doesn’t have to believe in God to have Supernatural events happen to them. In fact, there are more people believing in God than NOT. It is easier to believe what has been shared for generation after generation by Nations divided by land and sea ALL believing in some form of a Higher Being or Spirit! This is NOT a coincidence. Also, makes much more sense IF a MAGICAL EXPLOSION created ALL life ……….this same MAGICAL explosion could create the GOD that created the perfectly round planets, light and dark, plant form, male and female for recreation. Despite the larger numbers of people believing in God how many of these have experienced a Supernatural event? How many people unless high on drugs or alcohol claim to have seen unicorns, pegasus, or any other lifeforms that do NOT exist? It is NOT easy for those that have experienced a unnatural event to talk about it because of people that only believe what they want to believe…….. the same.people capable of mocking ones religious beliefs ……… because they don’t believe! Supernatural events have also happened to the non believers too! My ex husband does NOT believe in God and did NOT believe in the Supernatural haunting houses! Not only did I experience unnatural things happening in our home but finally he did too! You can try to explain how a 12 foot phone cord attached to a phone on the wall starts swinging several feet up off the floor…..in the middle of the day! Most of the events I experienced were in the day time. Doors slamming, lights going on and off! The house making a huge sonic boom sound capable of breaking a window but …..neighbors hear nothing! I was a young mother frightened to be alone! Yet, these events did NOT happen every day, or every week! If in my imagination why not HALLUCINATE more! Why not happen at night instead of the day when busy attending to my household duties? We did NOT have physical touch, or suffer any personal attacks by the spirit or spirits within our house. My hubby finally had his own personal experience and it scared the crap out of him. We were sleeping upstairs and he woke up when he heard the front door downstairs slam shut. He said that he sat straight up in bed awake and not asleep (this was not a nightmare). He heard someone with some weight walking on the old wood floors downstairs walking and with each step the floors were creaking. The THING walked slowly up our old wooden stairs and each stepped creaked as THE THING came closer. My non believing hubby got up and picked up a baseball bat and waited at our doorway for THE Thing to come down the hall to our room. But The Thing stopped when it got to the top of the stairs. After a few minutes he walked to the end of the stairs and nothing was there…….nothing! This is a no nonsense kind of guy that didn’t believe me and wanted to give me “unlogical” logical reasons for what I was experiencing! Shortly after this event we put our house on the market below value for a quick sale. Why didn’t OUR hallucinations continue for years and years to come? We were married 12 yrs living in multiple houses as we lived in several States. Living in old and new houses. I currently live in a olf 1945 house in the country. I have NEVER experienced anything supernatural here! Like I mentioned in a previous message……I would love to go to the old house I once lived in and ask the current residents if they have ever experienced anything unnatural. It is NOT a easy topic to share because of non believers and people that “know it all”.

        • Gilles August 5, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Kaddison, what all supernatural true stories have in common ?

The fact that people had faith in a particular god and this god protected them.

Now, obviously, you have no clue about sciences so it is pointless to discuss that kind of things with you.

“I would love to go to the old house I once lived in and ask the current residents if they have ever experienced anything unnatural”

Please do and take cameras and pictures or stop trying to convince people without any proofs. You have the power to provide proofs thanks to technology if such a thing exists. Do it. You will be the FIRST ONE EVER to provide proofs about supernatural events. That’s something that everyone can agree on.

        • Kaddison August 5, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Giles…..what happened to me and my ex husband was in the late 70’s. Even if I wanted to take pictures ….. when something happened…..it was always unexpected……usually during the day. I didn’t have camera’s on my mind. Only what I saw. There is NO explanations for the things I experienced or my Ex witnessed! I didn’t pray to God to help me or change something so that is your theory and wrong! I wasn’t very religious back then!!! Pls…..pls show me some pictures or films showing the changes a ape goes through to become a man! With all the modern technology surely you have something …..some proof! Explain……why did the evolution process just STOP! Why did some monkeys become man while others stayed monkeys? You can believe in your Hathiest theories and the rest of us will believe in OURS!

      44. sam jay H August 2, 2013 at 12:50 pm

You know on every site like this one, there is some one like you, i take it you never seen a ghost or heard a noise that you cant or wont belive thats ok, we all get our chance to witness good spirits and bad. so keep telling yourself that they love people like you. it makes you eazy pray,
thetve been in this world since the fall of angels, watch what you say they can hear you,.

        • Ilusindarim August 3, 2013 at 6:03 am

Any noise I’ve ever heard can be explained. Creaky house, door, wind outside, mice in the walls, animals lurking about. If they can hear what I say I’m sure they would have been offended by now. Is it because I long for a visit from one of these spirits that they are kept at bay? Nay, I say. They do not come for they do not exist. Maybe you hear noises because you WANT to hear them. You can’t explain them because you DON’T want to explain them. The mind has the ability to distort reality and disfigure your senses until they have crippled you entirely. Beware not the spirits but your own mind!

        • Kaddison August 3, 2013 at 4:53 pm

There will always be those that don’t believe……………ANYTHING! Just because IT HAS NOT HAPPENED TO THEM and because THEY CAN’T SEE IT……….it is NOT real! I was the same way. But some things are more than just a creaking door. Especially when two non believers live in a house haunted become believers. Those of us that have thad a supernatural experience don’t need to waste OUR time on those that KNOW IT ALL. They are the ones that THINK they always win the argument because they ARE ALWAYS RIGHT! Wrong! Look at how many people are in the world and how many people have had a supernatural experience and……….how many people haven’t! I will admit, there are some that got spooked over a sound they heard created by the wind………………while others know it was impossible for wind to come into their home and lift a 12 foot phone cord about 3ft off the floor while it was swinging back and forth in the air. Sometimes the event happening is so SHOCKING you freeze with free and don’t think about camera’s. You think about………..IS SOMEONE IN MY HOUSE and when you realize there is NOT anyone there you want out! I will also admit that there are lots of made up supernatural stories too…………..but for someone to say ALL are made up………….well………AGAIN, they are the KNOW IT ALLS!

        • Kaddison August 3, 2013 at 5:07 pm

It was actually my opinion that ALL people could be impacted by something unexplainable, supernatural…….people of all religion, non believers, and the evil. I have always believed in God. IF….IF someone can believe a man evolved from a monkey but that change stopped! Can believe in MAGICAL explosions (perhaps God came from the explosion too and He is the Creator)! Believing in God makes sense too! Many are AFRAID of what they can’t see or have never experienced! I do believe in Demons. I believe it is the demons that grab hold of ones inner being and leads them to do horrible acts…….like Gary Ridgeway, killing women and going back and having sex with their bodies DAYS later as it laid rotting. Like the Monsters that want to steal innocent children and do horrific acts to them. There aer a LOT of sick and unnatural behavior done by people that are NOT diagnosed as being mentally ill. Many of those that are mentally ill may very well be tormented by demon! We will never know………for we don’t see IT only the behavior! There is so many things that are unexplainable! Some REALLY happened and some were MADE UP just to make money! Unless we want to call all the people involved in this movie a liar………..the TRUTH is……….we DON’T know!

      45. Pam Carper-Hogue August 3, 2013 at 5:21 am

I believe because I have lived in a very haunted house. I was never harmed but seen n heard ghosts along with my other sister. My cousin also lived in a haunted house that she and her two children experienced a lot of the same things as in the movie, thank God she no longer lives there..

      46. Ilusindarim August 3, 2013 at 5:58 am

It still baffles me that people believe what they have not seen for themselves. I love some of these comments, one says spirits attack believers of God to weaken his following lol. Sorry, but what that tells me is a; maybe belief in God isn’t a good thing if it endangers your life, b; so spirits ONLY go after believers in Christian god? Why not everybody? Maybe it calls into question the sanity of those believers (not the group as a whole but certain individuals who think themselves special enough to deserve the attention of higher powers). My intent is not to insult because my family (not me) is highly religious. They are also intelligent and ground themselves to reality. To think that learned, intelligent people will believe you just by saying “it happened to me” is naive and foolish. We live in a world dominated now by factual proof, scientific evidence or video/photographic documentation. Without these things your stories can never be conceived as more than late night drinking, extended drug use or just delusional behavior that comes from psychological disorders. And for the “proof” shown in peoples YouTube videos, you always show it halfway into the act, giving you ample time to prepare whatever tricks the video shows us. Sound/visual effects can be added to a final product to enhance what you BELIEVE is happening, yet it does little to prove or persuade. Show me hard evidence or better yet bring me to these places and allow me to experience it myself and bring to light your “beliefs”.

      47. JordanS August 3, 2013 at 6:24 pm

How true is the movie? The Perron family and Mrs. Warren said, it was mostly true with some movie elements wrapped up in it. I believe them, I myself have experienced hauntings when I was younger. Although my story is different from theirs, the experience of how the otherworldly beings would present themselves to you is really similar – voices talking, apparitions, footsteps, moving objects. The movie elements I would say, is how they make it seem more dramatic than it really is. Like in real life haunting, there are no scary music, or effects like fog outside, or lighting effects. When hauntings happen they just happen, like for example, they make the rooms more darker so audiences get more scared. Like honestly, when I had my hauntings, I would turn on all the lights in the rooms, like really. Let’s just say, I’ll make the Annabelle doll as a metaphor. The real Annabelle doll didn’t even look half as scary as the movie version. So how they made the movie Annabelle doll look like, is like all the other movie effects that they did to the whole true story. The whole core of the story is in the movie, like the whole concept of the Annabelle doll, but just packaged with all the wrappings of special effects of how a horror movie is made. So I hope that makes everything a little clearer to everybody.

        • Kaddison August 3, 2013 at 7:50 pm

          Well said Jordan!

        • JordanS August 3, 2013 at 9:56 pm

@Kaddison Thanks! LOL, as a result of my hauntings, I went on the write a school thesis paper about it. I grew up in another country (Philippines), and moved here a little older. Then as I was researching for that paper and talked to people who had experienced hauntings. I was just amazed at the similarities of details, even if I experienced mine in another country. People who have never experienced such, don’t even know that their are little details that only those who have experienced would know. For instance, ghostly voices, I found out it was the same for everybody, you won’t hear them as you hear real sounds carried in the air. They actually sounds similar to those if you were wearing a headphone, except that everybody around you could also hear it. Anyway, I don’t really bother with those who have not experienced hauntings. I guess I, like most other people who have, don’t feel the need to make others believe. They have to experience it themselves. Even Andrea Perron at an interview said, hers or her family’s was not really to make other people believe, but just to make them think and just her feeling a need to tell their story.

lol in the age of science people stil buy this kind of crap which was created by primitive peoples to explain weird phenomena

        • Kaddison August 3, 2013 at 7:48 pm

LOL…………in the age of science and people are willing to buy that crap! Houston Scientist James Baker admitted that after years of research there was more truth found in the Bible than by modern day science. Science which continues to change and not as accurate as some want to believe. The man did his research to PROVE his fiance’s religious views WRONG. The more he researched the more he believed and found it to be true. Hmmmmm, it appears that even Scientist don’t agree! People can choose to believe whatever they want. I prefer to believe the oldest and best one told passed down generation to generation. Like the old saying…….where there is smoke there is usually fire. Those ancient people were not seeing flying horses and pigs. Those ancient people did not share stories about ghosts and creaking floors either. Doesn’t mean they didn’t exist but not important when compared to the REAL story to be told!

        • Jacob August 5, 2013 at 5:23 am

The only James Baker I have ever heard of is a politician. The only time you should trust what a scientist says is when it is in a peer reviewed journal. Did this James Baker put any of his information that he found in one of those… No. Why because the bible has been proven wrong on numerous things. You don’t even need science to see it. Tell me the order of creation after reading the first two chapters of Genesis. You can’t since they give two different orders. Science doesn’t just change the way you claim it does. First of all Science doesn’t claim things as fact it gives explanations with degrees of certainty and that is the beauty of it. When new evidence is discovered Science goes, “Hey, we didn’t account for this. Let’s change hypothesis to match this new evidence.” When religion sees new evidence they go, “It is the work of the devil. Don’t listen to it.” or “God works in mysterious ways beyond what we could ever hope to comprehend.” I also want to point out that yes science makes mistakes a lot of the time these changes that you complain about are actually the explanation becoming more accurate. For instance the Earth appears to keep getting older and older when you don’t listen to what is being claimed. In actuality, there was always a range for the age and the new range will usually be a smaller one that is within the old range. If people want to believe the bible is true that is fine, but don’t act like it is equivalent to science. The claims of the bible is a bunch of claims with no evidence that are never attempted to be proven wrong, unless you are a non-believer, and are equivalent to natural laws. Science is a bunch of claims held up by evidence and constantly being attempted to be proven wrong by experts in the field and only the ones that pass these rigorous trials get to become theories and only parts of the theories that have numerical proofs get to become natural laws. Only the ignorant would claim the bible to be equivalent to this.

        • Kaddison August 5, 2013 at 3:41 pm

Jacob, James (Jim) Baker did write up his research and this would have been in the early 90’s. I was fortunate enough to attend one of his seminars. He is not a politician! The Bible has been found faulty by those that DON’T want to believe. Perhaps for fear! Perhaps because they don’t want to believe they will go to a place called Hell for living a sinful life! I don’t believe Scientists. I don’t believe I came from a monkey. IF…..IF there was a explosion responsible for the beginning of time…..such a explosion could also be responsible for creating GOD, Regardless of what you believe…….you brought religion into this and the topic here is about a scary movie with (maybe) some truths and non truths in it! I personally have witnessed enough to believe in both God and the supernatural!

        • Gilles August 5, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Kaddison, you did not evolve from a monkey. Did you get an education in the bible belt ?
Even a 12 years old child could tell you that.

        • Kaddison August 5, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Peoria, Illinois……….although none of your business! Are you on here to preach your Hate like most H”athiest” or to annoy people? The guy that has to get the last word! Go ahead…..I will let you finish with the “last word” without a response. I was married to a guy like you……I made him a EX! You are not as smart as you think, do not have all the answers, but ONE day….you will!!!

        • Kaddison August 5, 2013 at 4:21 pm

One more thing that is none of your business is my education. I was BLESSED to be in school during the years evolution was not taught. Although, I did learn about the Darwin Theory from tv. I also know that some have switched from the Darwin Theory to ……believing we didn’t actually come from monkey but a ancestry link. When Scientist couldn’t explain why the evolution stopped and monkeys were still monkeys there had to be another explanation. I am like you in some ways. When it comes to modern day science …..I NEED PROOF! For now, I will believe in generations and generations passing down story after story about a Great man known as the Son of God!

        • Gilles August 6, 2013 at 8:51 am

That’s why I weep for humanity when I read that.

Anyway, have fun in your celestial North Korea when you die. I couldn’t care less ! :)

        • Andrei August 7, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Kaddison . . the truth is . . whether we believe in science or Religion . . we all ask ourselves the same question? where did we come from? how did we get here? what is our purpose?

But you have to see a number of arguments according to the Bible.

Adam and Eve first and the only 2 people on earth. Eve gave birth to 2 boys only. Now if homosexuality is a sin, and so is incest . . explain how earth was populated.

According to the Bible, you can walk of the edge of the world, which would make Earth a flat platform with an end. Now if the bible is written by Man through the voice of God, I’m sure God knew earth is round. Maybe when the first Bible was written, there were no means of long distance transport, or satellites in space, so the men who wrote the Bible wouldn’t have known what the planet looks like, so they described it how they thought it would look.

Also if you pay close attention, in the Bible God killed a lot more men than the other bad guy.

Like i said all theories have arguments. . and questions can be asked about anything.

God gave us all a free choice and a free will. We can choose to believe and embrace God, and we can choose not to, and that is the choice God allows us to make without any interference from Him.

But please don’t think you are superior to everyone else, cuz you believe in God. we are all equal and you ma’am are wrong. And if God was your boss, and your job was to be a good christian and practice what the Bible represents, God would fire you, as you did a very poorly job.

        • Kaddison August 7, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Andrei………………….Where did I say I was Superior because of my belief in God? No where! Religion was brought up when attacked on a message board about a haunted house and others believing they have all the answers to the magical world we all live in! Now to your comment about the sons of Adam and Eve being gay! This would not be possible and obviously no way to help populate the earth since men can’t make babies anyway! That is not their purpose. There is a verse in the Bible that clearly states all there is to know is not in the Bible for the Bible would be to big to hold all the information and our minds unable to comprehend all their is too know! Your right……..we believe the way we want and we all have free will as I already stated! FYI…..some believe there were many children instead of 3 sons born to Adam and Eve. The Bible does not talk about every family member. Only those of importance. It is believed reproduction was from sex with Eve or with a sister. What existed in the Old Testament is only there for history. All changed when Christ died on the cross and the New Testament became the new way of live. Others have also quoted ….. Genesis 1:26 God made HUMANS. Adam and Eve were the FIRST TWO people in the Garden of Eden. Not the only ones! Satan, Anti Christ and False teachers also exist according to the Bible. There are many trying to distort and confuse people. Many that are ChristianPHOBIC and HATE those that are NOT like them! God Bless you Andrei………..now …………can we go back to topic……The movie!!!!

I believe in spirits and supernatural activity one night my car started up when me and my partner where in bed we both ran outside and watched my car drive away but when we rang the guards the only set of leys for the car where still in my bedroom drawer the detectives never found a trace of my car

        • Jacob August 5, 2013 at 4:54 am

Looks like your car got stolen via hot wire and taken to a chop shop. I really hope you are making fun of these sort of stories and didn’t actually think a ghost stole your car.

      50. Trust, but Verify August 4, 2013 at 10:22 pm

I just saw the movie. As far as horror movies go, it wasnt bad. However, since many of the comments, here, seem to be questioning the “reality” of what happened- I just have one question, “where is the evidence?” The movie clearly shows the Warren’s utilizing a rather elaborate set up for filming, recording audio and capturing photographs. So, where is the evidence? A “true story” without hard evidence is, sadly, nothing more than iust “a story”.

      51. TheBrook August 5, 2013 at 3:19 am

it was good….all but when old lady balls started talking, she can really kill a story, and brain cells

      52. nodemonshere August 5, 2013 at 10:54 pm

One of the many advantages of being an atheist – no god, no demons either. I only have to fear the other humans. And bears.

      53. bridget jeffcote August 7, 2013 at 1:42 am

yes demons are very real and yes i do believe they do exist. i have walked into rooms and felt the presence of evil spirits and leaves a cold feeling around me when they know i am there. they can do all things that they want to do and can manifest through other people and also things can happen. i have had this gift since a young girl. i have woken up during the night and felt something hovering over me and could not move. this movie exposes the truth and even though i have only watched the trailer i intend to watch the movie when it comes out at our local cinema.

      54. charlene August 7, 2013 at 4:01 am

The spirit world is real. Some people have encounters with this realm and others do not.If you are looking for ” proof” make your way to a sweatlodge and more often than not you will find what you are looking for.Just be prepared for your thoughts to change.I know mine did.

      55. charlene August 7, 2013 at 4:24 am

And just to clarify, not all sweatlodges are equal.Im not suggesting that you seek this out to prove a point, that came out wrong. What I should have said is that if you have lost someone close to you and you have questions or need closure then there are ELDERS and other people in this circle who may help you do this in a very powerful and unique way.I assure you that what I experienced was very real and not a hallucination and took me by complete suprise. I cannot make comments about this inparticular story by this family but only tell my personal experience as a very staunch non believer who is now very much a believer about “the other side”.

      56. Andrei August 7, 2013 at 11:24 am

ok so lets see who can explain this. In the movie they said ghosts are harmless spirits that wonder among us, spirits that were once human. then there are demons, inhuman evil spirits, spirits that never walked the earth in human form, and only demons can poses a human being, ghosts can’t. Now the dilemma where i think the Perron’s kinda screwed the whole “true story”. the house is haunted by the spirit of a witch, who gave birth to a child that she killed, therefor she must have been HUMAN, therefor the spirit is a ghost which is harmless, and since its a ghost IT CANNOT POSSES A HUMAN BEING. Now that is what the Warren’s say in the movie, so watch it again in case you missed that.

Now how come the ghost of the evil witch was able to poses the mother in the movie? so lets face facts. . Andrea how much did you get paid by WB to come forward and say this movie is as real as it gets? just so movie goers get even more scared, and start believing the movie is true. Like someone earlier said, why was there no media coverage of the incident, and also why is this “based on a true story” told by yourself.

Also why every internet search in regards to the story covered by the conjuring has no early articles, they all came out around the time the movie started being made?? if there was such a horrific case you would think the Church would have used this “true story” to promote faith in God.

I think you left to many loop holes and to many argument points in your story for everyone to believe.

I could very well write a book about “Santa one day decided who wanted to re-marry and he chose the tooth fairy to be his new wife, the Easter Bunny wasn’t happy as he loved the tooth fairy first, so he goes on a rampage and starts possessing ppl” it will be based on a “true story” told by me, does that mean movie goers will believe it if they will see that in a motion picture??

In my opinion, movie goers, you want to believe in possession and stuff, The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, those are more believable stories that this one is. In those movie it was clear it was an evil demonic power. It had a name, which you can read about, and you never know which demon possessed a person, until that person is possessed, and in the exorcism, the exorcist is able to get the demon to say its name. Also another thing, you never actually see what the “evil entity” looks like, unlike in the Conjuring where you see the entity clearly looks human, and you also find out the name of the witch way before the mom gets possessed by a GHOST (which should not be possible)

if you still wanna back up your story that is actual fact and not fiction then i believe you have to do a lot better than ur previous efforts, or be honest and tell us you didn’t get a hefty compensation for making recent posts supporting the “true story” portrayed in the movie.

Thank you and have a nice day

I don’t believe in demons any more than I believe in god or gods, but I still love a good horror movie and I still get scared while I’m watching them! I just saw The Conjuring and it was great- it was really scary and suspenseful and everything a good horror movie should be! As for the truth to it, I believe the mind is very powerful and can trick us into believing all kinds of things. I don’t believe in any of it, but I do believe the people who experienced it believe it is real. That doesn’t make it so, but it’s real to them. Anyway, good movie.

      61. Henry August 13, 2013 at 1:31 am

For all the sceptics I just want to say I wish I could let you stay in our old farm house for one night and you will seriously crap yourselves! But we all that believe respect you guys so it would be nice to show respect towards people that encountered it first hand! Count yourself lucky if you haven’t been haunted and terrified, but please don’t talk down to people that have encountered a haunting!

I was a sceptic for many years until it happened to me! Through all of my struggles with seeing and hearing the unexplainable I have grown from it! I am a medium myself! Usually the sceptics are the ones that suffer the worst in the long run! So never say never!

        Love and Light

I do not think any of this is true, but I do believe some of this is real. I believe in God, and I think that it can not only be good things that lives at our planet, and I think that we’re foolish enough to think I that what we see right in front of us is all there is. In this case, I am skeptical.

I absolutely love the movie. They did a very good job making it. The story itself is crazy, I can’t imagine going through the things that that family went through. I feel so sorry for the kids who were involved in this horrifying event. Being so young, and experiencing the things they did is just unbelievable. I feel bad for the whole family because this was something they will never forget. It will stick with them forever. Hearing about the Annabelle doll was just crazy. I would have never thought something like that would happen. I do believe that demons and spirits do exist. Very good things to always have god on your side, especially at a time like this. Wonderful movie, very scary. The story is just unbelievable. Thank you so much to the family for sharing this horrifying, yet very interesting story. I absolutely love it!

fool people wake up and go to work… ha ha ghost i feel like laughing

…i believe that yes it may be true and if it is, then everyone has a lot of apologizing to do to God, because if demons are involved then the “Father of The Lie” or “Satan” truly is roaming the earth, and we should be ashamed that we entertain ourselves with these things.

On the other hand, if it’s not true, the way I see it, is, Reality TV has come really far, like stupid shows like Housewives of Whatever city of choice it may be, really should be called “how to make a fool of yourself and get divorced”…anyway I’m off subject, but maybe, reality is taking it so far that people group up like little scheme artists and work together to make this up…like actors pretending to be this real live person. They said “people couldn’t handle it until now” and “they’ve been working hard to get this story told” I mean what a “great phrase” to draw people in. People love reality and LOVE TRUE STORIES, so why not slap that on a movie, and LIE, why not, this whole world is a big fat lie. Big Bucks for all involved.

However, that is a little thought of mine and I don’t believe it 100%! So no disrespect to all involved, especially to people who were crushed by the incidents and cute little Lorraine, she’s adorable! I gotta say though, sometimes I really wonder how far this entertainment world would take it.

we both of course think that you guys deffinately have some kind of form of an evil spirit entity, we dont think its an evil child spirit, it could very well be an adult especailly when you guys showed in one of your videos what damage it did going up to your attic and some of your house hold appliances. we are truley sorry for how dramitizing this must be for you and paul having to deal with this every day it must be very scary , nothing nobody else would want to asociate with in their lives it must be awful for you guys, anyways heres a suggestion smudge your attic and your whole house with sage , sage can be used for spiritual purposes and has great spiritual benifits it gets rid of spirits that are not welcome in your home. hope our suggestion helps and take care

I know everyone has an opinion when a sensitive subject about the unseen comes across. I know its hard to believe with a limited understandding due to the fact that it occurs to the victim and not to someone else. The fact of the matter is there are witnesses of these events and to have someone come in and say, “Thats not real. I want evidence”, those spirits are not there for you. Of course when the witness tries to give their story it all sounds like a bunch of made up stories from dreams and fairytales. But then again why would someone make up a story about being tormented by a dark force. A lot of times the victims are so terrified they don’t want to tell their story as no one will believe them. From what I see there is no moral support from the human race when someone has a story to tell and need a listening, understanding, and loving ear to hear them. From my understanding many of these people that experience such horrific things will feel lonely, fearful, out of place, and trapped. But the unbeliever will make excuses for them because their experience and testimony isnt evidence enough. Thats why the enemy doesnt show himself in that form to an unbeliever as he already has them in the blindness of their unbelief making the physicality of this world the only dimension believable. I myself have witnessed the dangers if this darkness and the realism of the spiritual world. You can cuss at me, put me down, degrade me and make excuses for me, i dont care. You werent there. I live my life not for the benefit of a mans understanding but to be an example of love and support to the suffering.

At one time I hated God. I would hear my mother pray but i didnt want to hear it but I was curious. Why pray to someone you cant see? Was there a God?

Eventually I did give my heart to Jesus but what made the realism of the spiritual world was when my brother woke me up one night and told me something was wrong with my dad in the next room. It sounded like he was trying to pray but couldnt. So my brothet asked me to check on my dad. So I got up and went to his room to hear what was going on. As I stood next to his bed he was writhing and trying to speak. I put my hand on hand his shoulder and shook him because i thought maybe he was having a nightmare. I said, “dad, are you ok?” I will never forget what he told me. He said, “help me. Theres a demon on top of me choking me.” He said it as if out of breath and in a desperate tone of urgency. I was afraid a little bit but I got really angry. I put my right hand on his chest and prayed. When i did this my hand felt like it was on fire but i put my left hand on top of the the right so as to not remove it off my dad. I prayed and commanded that demon to loosen my dad. When my dad was set free he inhaled very deeply taking in fresh air of freedom.

This happened over 17 years ago. My father and I can remember it like it was yesterday. After that I knew demons were real. Now why would someone make up a story like that? Again someone is bound to make an excuse for us by their “intelligible logic”. Nobody wants to go through something like that. Its nothing to glory over nor is it something to brag about. These are scary situations and they do occur wether you believe it or not. Other attacks have happened after that but we knew what to do. Thank you Andrea for sharing you story on film and in book form. As my dear sister in the comments above, Dana, put it, shame on us for entertaining that. Its true. When we entertain those things we give recognition and allow them to enter our homes but with a lifestyle of adultery, drunkenness and a life of selfishness my father allowed this into our house. The bible does say, resist the devil and he will flee from you. But when the enemy gets bold and attacks you to discourage you from following Jesus, what do you do? Jesus said “I have given you power over all the power of the enemy.” But we are not to rejoice because devils are subject to us but that our names are written inthe book of life.

Thank you for allowing me to share. I do have a lot of stories on this subject matter from my experiences and to the critic, Im not looking for money from a book deal or a film to be made. There is light and darkness. There is real evil in the unseen that are studying our weaknesses, as all opponents do, trying to catch us in our vulnerable moments to attack us. Like a lion hunting for easy prey. But I also believe in the greatest power of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. Peace and love to all of you including the unbeliever and critics. If you havent experienced it, we pray you never will. It isnt pleasant. God bless y’all.

Oh, gee, another American film that couldn’t resist a racist subliminal in passing. Ed Warren is being interviewed by a black reporter whilst taking him through his museum. Ed refers to a toy monkey and lo the camera focuses on the face of the reporter. Something should really done about this crap.

For all of you who believe in ghosts try sending real evidence to the James randi foundation. $1 million is still waiting to be claimed for REAL evidence and its been sat there for over 10 years!

I do not personally believe in god. I think it is comical how these things happen behind closed doors where no one else but themselves can confirm. Funny how nothing like this has ever made a camera.. Especially with technology today. Even in 2013 we haven’t seen anything so bizarre. Definitely fabricated or people are insane. Just my two cents. Nothing like this has ever been captured.. And it never will, because it doesn’t happen.

I’m Eriga Donald from AUSTRALIA. I finally got a spell caster that helps my boyfriend to break up with my best friend who took him away from me because of jealousy. She is my best friend but she betrayed me and took him away from me because I always tell her how much he loves and cares for me. I’m always hurt every time I see them together and I know she did everything on purpose just to hurt me because she had never had any relationship that has lasted for a year. I so much thank God that I found Dr.kizzekpe email trough testimonies on blogs. He helped me and assured me that my boyfriend will breakup with her because it’s not ordinary. He then cast a spell upon them to break them up and it worked within 40hours that he promised. So I finally get him back with much love. I can’t believe this actually worked because the whole thing happened like a dream. Thank you so much for giving us second chance to show more love to our self. Contact him with this email:kizzekpespells@outlook.com

I believe ed and Lorraine Warren to be fake! Along w others who have other motives than just seeking truth! While I do believe the patron family went through Somme horrific times! People can be decieved as I have been myself I don’t trust everything at face value! And this movie along w others who decieve n. Scare people w only partial truths sicken me!

      85. melissa March 10, 2014 at 5:23 pm

I don’t believe this to be full truth! Being ed and Lorraine Warren have Ben confirmed to be fakes! While I do believe the parron family did experience a haunting I think they were played soon by ed and Lorraine because of what they were experienceing! I’ve been in haunted houses and I feel for the parron family! Being fooled myself by people I look at all facts before I believe everything!

Do I believe in demons? Yes although I never used to until several random events convinced me and trust me it took alot before I acknowledged a presence in our house. To add further proof at one incident we had a party where 50 plus guests witnessed paranormal activities. When confronted our house became plagued with all sorts of events so in the end we left it alone. It comes and goes couple days a year but other than that it leaves us alone also.

Anyone find it funny how all these so called occurrences happened in the 50’s/60’s/70’s and never ever happens in this day and age. Nothing! Why, because we have too much technology available to document this rubbish.

      91. azoreseuropa March 17, 2015 at 10:25 pm

I know that its real but this movie is not 100 percent real.. Maybe 50 percent real in real life from this movie and other 50 percent is just making up to make a story complete. Sorry about my English.
