CBS Cancels ‘BrainDead’ and ‘American Gothic’

These last few years CBS has found some surprising success with summer television series, but it looks like the network’s new shows didn’t quite heat-up the airwaves this year.

CBS announced today that their new shows “BrainDead” and “American Gothic” have been cancelled after their first season.  “BrainDead” was a political comedy about alien brain slugs infiltrating the US government.  Personally, I never got around to watching it, but I heard some mixed things that it suggested that the show was supremely weird or really entertaining.  Either way, sounds like it would have been up my alley.  Not to mention it also starred Tony Shalhoub and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, two actors that are very enjoyable to watch.

“American Gothic” was more of a dramatic thriller that focused on a family trying to escape the shadow of one of their members being a serial killer.  However, things take a turn when they learn that one of them may have been an accomplice.  While I heard a lot of buzz around “BrainDead” I never heard a single thing about “American Gothic.”  In fact, I barely remember this show even existed.

And that’s probably the case for a lot of people as the shows are both being cancelled for very low ratings.  It’s a bummer for fans of the summer series, but perhaps one of these shows may find new life on a streaming platform.  It’s not very likely, but there’s a chance.
