Jurassic Park 3D A Success For Studio & Fans

People are lining up in droves to go and see Jurassic Park 3D. Some are going to see it in IMAX since they have only seen it on DVD before. Others are going to see it to re-experience it again in theaters. Many more myself included are going to go see it for the 3D which Universal invested heavily in doing.

Regular site reader Dennis Francis saw Jurassic Park 3D and writes;

Jurassic Park is still one of the best movies ever and still to this day the special effects and practical effects hold its own to a lot of movies out there.I am not a fan of gimmicks but, Jurassic Park in 3D was absolutely awesome.

The whole movie was 3D. Not just a few scenes (Like the god-awful Saw 3D or Tron) I did not feel cheated or like I wasted money from it.

Dennis is not alone in his passion for the new 3D re-release. Bob another reader writes;

Saw Jurassic Park in 3D at an IMAX and it was amazing. Well worth the 2 and a half hour drive to the nearest IMAX. The first time you see the T-Rex is unbelieveable still. Looks so real. I really liked how the whole movie was in 3D, almost like it was completely filmed just for it (Only 3D trailer that looked like it was well done was Iron Man 3). I was talking to a young man there and he thought the movie was made in 2002 and filmed specifically for IMAX 3D. It’s that good.

Plus I was born in ’91 so I wasn’t able to see it in theaters the 1st time around. Any chance to watch classics on the big screen (3d or not), I’m taking it. They could’ve just added a few scenes of 3D to the dinosaur scenes and I’ve would’ve been happy with it (for a 3D movie), but they went ahead and did it to the whole movie.

3D Movies have as identified above by Dennis are at times nothing more then a gimmick that lures people away from their big screen TV’s in their homes to go see a movie in theatres. Frankly this 3D gimmick pisses me off. Over the last 5 years we have seen some absolute garbage 3D horror movies released and it has hurt the technology and pissed off fans.

If you want me to pay to see your movie in theaters give me a reason to and reward me with something spectacular. Keep the tricks for Halloween.

In the case of Jurassic Park 3D Universal got the point of 3D and spent a ton of time and money on making it happen. Universal had a team of 700 artists working on converting Jurassic Park to 3D according to the Telegraph. These 700 artists worked for 9 months with a budget of $10million converting Jurassic Park into 3D and the results are spectacular if you listen to the fans.

The time and money invested by Universal has paid off not only for fans but also the studio. The 3D converted Jurassic Park has brought in $32million on a budget of $10million and has generated a ton of buzz for its release on Blu-Ray 3D on April 24th.

More importantly think of the marketing genius behind Jurassic Park 3D. With Jurassic Park 4 just around the corner what better way to get all the original fans excited for the new film. Fans of the original are bringing their children to theaters and helping build a new generation of fans for Jurassic Park 4 and it didnt cost Universal a nickle. They actually made a ton of money remarketing Jurassic Park to a new audience.

Simply put its Genius on the part of Universal. Please your fans, make some money and line us up in anticipation of Jurassic Park 4!
