Milla Jovovich Will Play the Blood Queen in the new ‘Hellboy’ Film

Sure, we’re all still bummed that Guillermo Del Toro won’t be making “Hellboy 3,” but if there’s any consolation it’s that this new take on “Hellboy” is shaping up to have a pretty excellent cast.

So far we know that David Harbour is set to play the titular character Hellboy and Ian McShane is going to play Professor Broom.  We also know that the upcoming reboot will be directed by Neil Marshall who directed such films as “Dog Soldiers” and “The Descent.”

Now, thanks to Deadline, we know that Milla Jovovich has signed on to play the Blood Queen in the upcoming film.  Now this is kind of interesting because in the Hellboy comics there is a villain known as the Queen of Blood.  This could very well be the same character, otherwise it’d be really strange to have to two similarly named characters with no relation.   In the comics the Queen of Blood is a powerful witch from Arthurian times who returns to the modern day to seek revenge.  The previous title of this Hellboy reboot was “Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen,” but they’ve seem to have dropped that title for now.

It’s also interesting to note that the Deadline article used to refer to Milla as the villain of the film, but has since dropped that wording. Curiouser and curiouser.  Guess we’ll have to wait and see what this all means.
