NBC Has Canceled Dracula

Alternatively, you could say that NBC put a stake in Dracula.  I know, I’m like some sort of pun master.

Sad news today for fans of NBC’s “Dracula”, the network has decided not to renew the series for a second season.  Despite utilizing a low-cost licensing fee like “Hannibal”, the shows ratings just weren’t holding up.  And, according to Deadline, there was some sort of issue surrounding series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers which might have complicated production.  A quick Google search turns up a story from way back in November which revealed that NBC had concerns about Meyers’ alleged substance abuse problems.  It’s hard to say how much that might have had an impact on the shows renewal, but you can imagine it might have come up in discussions.

Personally, I never watched the show, but I know that it had a strong following and I knew a few ladies who were absolutely in love with the Dracula character, so I’m sure the news comes as a huge disappointment to those groups.  But, when it comes to vampires, there are plenty of other fish in the ocean.  I’m sure a new vampire show is just around the corner.
