Starz Has Cancelled ‘Ash Vs Evil Dead’ After Three Seasons

Despite being a hit with critics and beloved by “Evil Dead” fans, it seemed like “Ash Vs Evil Dead” was always fighting to stay alive.  Perhaps it was because on a premium network like Starz or the fact that more and more people seem to be cutting their cords these days, but the show only declined in ratings after its modest premiere in 2015.  And, unfortunately, a show can only chug along on goodwill for so long before it runs out of steam.

Starz has announced today that season three of “Ash Vs Evil Dead” will be the final season on the network.  Next week’s episode on April 29th will effectively serve as the series finale.  Last month Bruce Campbell said that if “Ash Vs Evil Dead” is cancelled, it would be the last time we’d see him as Ash.    Taking to Twitter today, it seems as if Bruce Campbell has reiterated that point by thanking those involved with the show for one more chance to revisit the character.

It would be easy to be upset with Starz, but I would like to point out that it’s crazy they even took a risk on it to begin with.  “Evil Dead” is certainly a horror favorite, but it’s not exactly box office gold.  And the nature of “Evil Dead” does not make it a TV friendly show, so Starz taking a chance on it was surprising to begin with.  Then to give it three seasons in the face of declining viewership is even more surprising.  It’s a shame “Ash Vs Evil Dead” wasn’t able to draw a bigger audience, but I think when people discover this show in the years to come they’re gonna be kicking themselves for not finding it sooner.

So if this is the final time we see Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, that’ll be a bummer, but if you’re gonna go out its best to go out on top.  Thanks for all the laughs and scares Ash.

Ash Vs Evil Dead has been the ride of a lifetime. Ash Williams was the role of a lifetime.

I will always be grateful to Starz, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and our tireless fans for the opportunity to revisit the franchise that launched our careers. Thank you! 😎
