The Hitchcock Nine Go On Tour

We all know Hitchcock from such classic films as Rear Window, Psycho and Birds but have you heard of the Hitchcock 9?  These films were made between 1925 and 1929 and represent some of Hitchcock’s earliest works, including the very first film he ever made.  These are a rare batch of films, to say the least.

Deadline is reporting that the British Film Institute has gone through the arduous task of restoring the films and is now set to take them on an American tour.  The event will start on June 14th where the films will be played at San Francisco’s Castro Theater as part of the Silent Film Festival.  From there they will travel to Los Angeles on June 18th and play at the Goldwyn Theater.  Then on to the BAMcinemark in Brooklyn where it’ll play from June 29th to July 5th.  Dates will be announced soon for other cities such as Berkeley, Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., Boston, Houston and more.

The films that will be played include: The Pleasure Garden (Hitchcock’s first film), Downhill, Easy Virtue, Champagne, The Farmer’s Wife, Blackmail, The Ring, The Manxman, and The Lodger.

Fun fact: The Lodger is the first film where Hitchcock makes his signature cameo appearance.

Personally, I can’t wait to see these films.  Even if they don’t turn out to be horror related, there’s no denying the mark that Hitchcock left on the genre so it’ll be an interesting study to see his early works.
