‘The Shining’ Returns to Theaters for Two Days this October

“Heeeeeeere’s Joseph!” Wait… that’s not right. Oh well, it’ll come to me.  This year October seems a little mix bag when it comes to it’s horror movies selections.  In a couple of weeks we’ll have Rob Zombie’s new film, a sequel to “Ouija”, and Tyler Perry’s “BOO! A Medea Halloween.” One of which is bound to leave you horrified.  But if none of these offerings appeal to you, how about a guaranteed classic?

Fathom Events has announced today that they’re bringing back Stanley Kubrik’s classic film “The Shining” for two days this October.  The event is part of Fathom’s current partnership with Turner Classic Movies and their “TCM Big Screen Classics” series.  As such attendees to the screening will also be treated to a special commentary by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.

The two day event will take place on October 23rd and October 26th with two showings on both days at 2pm and 7pm.  Here’s the official press release with ticket info:

“Heeeere’s Johnny!” … back on the big screen just in time for Halloween. Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Warner Bros. Entertainment invite you to relive Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece of modern horror, “The Shining” (1980), when it returns to cinemas nationwide for a special two-day event this October as part of Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies’ TCM Big Screen Classics series. “TCM Big Screen Classics: The Shining” will screen Sunday, October 23 and Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.local time (both days) and will include exclusive commentary by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz.

From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, director Stanley Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing settings, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a macabre milestone. In a signature role,Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, who’s come to the elegant, isolated Overlook Hotel, as the off-season caretaker with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd). Torrance has never been there before – or has he? The answer lies in a ghostly time warp of madness and murder.

Tickets to “TCM Big Screen Classics: The Shining” can be purchased online from www.FathomEvents.com (theaters and participants are subject to change).
