World War Z Sequel Goes Into Production

While Brad Pitt is partying it up in Toronto after the wildly-successful premiere and buzz about a possible Oscar sweep for his film 12 Years a SlavePitt sat down with Variety about the possibility of a World War Z sequel.

In the video, Pitt never really gives a clear answer other than “We’re certainly talking about it, yeah.”  While the film was plagued by re-shoots and negative press, despite all that, World War Z managed to bring in over $500 million at the box-office internationally.

If you’ve been living under a rock, World War Z follows a UN investigator (Pitt) as he travels the globe in a desperate search to find a cure for a zombie virus that’s toppled governments and killed millions.

OKAY!! DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YOU!!!

At the end of World War Z, we of course discover that disease is our salvation and humanity begins infecting its own citizens with non-lethal strains of chronic illnesses.  We’re not sure how that worked out for Brad Pitt in the end, seeing as how he infected himself with the unaltered strain of a dangerous pathogen.  But it’s a movie, right?

So that begs the question: How in the world is there going to be a World War Z 2 when they’ve already discovered the cure?  While the writers, presumably Matt CarnahanDrew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof of the first film are probably hard at work with Skydance and GK Films, they’ve got some figuring out to do as far as universe continuity goes.
