A Sequel to Killing Floor is on the Way

Tripwire announced today, through an exclusive reveal on PC Gamer, that they are moving forward with a sequel to their popular wave shooter “Killing Floor.”

“Killing Floor”, for those that don’t know, is an over-the-top wave based shooter that pits a player and a few companions against a horde of nightmarish creatures.  In the original game, the creatures were monsters leftover from a cloning experiment gone horribly wrong.  It was, essentially, an enjoyable splatterfest where you got to engage in some brutal carnage.  Not an incredibly deep game, but very fun to play.

The new sequel, “Killing Floor 2″, will continue the proud tradition of bloody mayhem by incorporating new animations that’ll enhance the visceral action of the game.  As PC Gamer puts it, Tripwire has developed “the most complicated gore system in gaming—a gore system they’ve been building for Killing Floor 2 for the past two years… They want each and every exploded brain, severed leg and bloody gutshot to look unique.”

Tripwire is also taking advantage of an expanded budget and extra resources and extensively mocapping everything.  They’ve mocapped death animations, melee, and movement all in first-person and third-person view.  It’s an attempt to give all the violence a sense of realistic fluidity.

“Killing Floor 2″ will first be available through Steam’s Early Access for Windows and SteamOS.  However, a solid release date has yet to be confirmed, but Tripwire’s President John Gibson did say that it would be sooner than we expect.
