Quentin Tarantino is Making a Movie Based on the Manson Murders

In recent years director Quentin Tarantino has been alluding to the idea of wanting to retire from filmmaking.  However, in the same breath he usually mentions wanting to take on  a few other genres before hanging it up.  Among them being the horror genre.  Could Tarantino’s latest film be his take on horror?

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Quentin Tarantino is in the early stages of his next project which is said to be based on the Manson murders.  So far we know that Tarantino has written the film and plans to direct it and has begun to talk to people to star in it.  THR notes that Tarantino has reportedly approached people like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence.

The way THR describes the project almost makes it sound like it could feature various plot threads.  Here’s how they worded the description:

Script details are fuzzy but one of the stories centers on Sharon Tate, the actress and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969.

It wouldn’t be the first time Tarantino has done a film composed of different vignettes.  It’d be easy to imagine a time period like the 60s would lend itself well to multiple plot threads, but we’ll have to see how this all unfolds.

For now there’s nothing confirming that this will be a “horror”film at all, but with Tarantino having expressed interest in the genre and given the horrifying nature of Manson and his acts, it’d be easy to see how Tarantino could take a stab at horror with this one.  Time will tell.
