Original Dark Shadows Cast To Cameo In The Film

Chris Savage

Unfortunately Dark Shadows the sitcom was a bit before my time but it is on my list to check out. But for those of you who witnessed the original run or discovered the show later may witness some deja vu when some original cast members return.

According to DreadCentral; “Daniel Herman (publisher, Hermes Press) moderated, and Parker and Scott were just about bursting at the seams to share the news that they, along with both David Selby (Quentin Collins) and, yes, the much beloved Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins) spent three days at Pinewood Studios during the filming of Burton’s upcoming Dark Shadows movie.”

They will all be making a cameo in Tim Burton’s adaptation of the Gothic sitcom which is set for a May 11, 2012 release date.

Dark Shadows is set to star Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green, Bella Heathcote, Michelle Pfeiffer, Thomas McDonell, Gulliver McGrath, Chloe Moretz and Helena Bonham Carter. There is still the speculation of Alice Cooper possibly be joining the film.

Dark Shadows the original was not a sit-come, but a soap opera.

Dark Shadows the original was filmed live, one take only, no editing was allowed due to budget cost. It was not intended to be viewed as comedy, but serious horror romance.

If Tim Burton, Johnny Depp does make Dark Shadows a funny comedy, they will loose viewers who were fans of the original and 1991. Dark Shadows should be Supernatural Romance Thriller with witty sarcasm.

Thanks for the insight, Caprice. As you can tell I’ve never witnessed this soap-opera, but it is one of my things I need to check out.

I am the same age as Johnny Depp. I remember running home from the school bus to watch twenty minutes of Dark Shadows. It had it cheesy moments but the show did not have a huge budget, you can see sometimes the wires controlling the vampire bat. One mistake is reported by Jonathan Frid, that he thought the filming was over and done, walked across the set in his every day clothes this was at the end credit scene. This was during the black and whites. This was during the color scenes an  actress she was close to  age 70, she could not remember her lines at all, you can hear Dan Curtis telling her word for word in what to say and she repeating it back.  These mistakes were not intentional.

That sounds great! I’m all for the super low budget fair. It’s what gives certain shows their unique charm. Thanks once again Caprice, I’ll be checking out those links on my days off. 😀
