Franck Khalfoun Remaking Maniac

Chris Savage

It has been some time since we heard any rumblings of a Maniac redo. I was hoping the idea got swept away and never to be heard of again. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, as the remake appears to be in full swing.

According to the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting, they have exclusively learned that Franck Khalfoun will be directing the remake of Maniac from a script penned by Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur.

There is no news on  a start date or any cast attached, but I have a feeling this will begin very soon. For those unfamiliar with, William Lustig’s Maniac, check out the synopsis and original trailer below.

Synopsis: “A schizoid serial killer randomly stalks and kills various young women in New York, which he sees as revenge for the mistreatment he got while being raised by his own abusive mother.

Well the fact that Aja is involved gives me hope, afterall, I prefer his remake of the Hills have Eyes over the original.

I am totally with both of you guys! I agree, The Hills Have Eyes remake was totally badass, one of the best remakes I have ever seen. I’m just hoping Khalfoun can pull it off. Also, please give us an awesome head explosion… No cgi. 😀

The original Maniac had great performances and vicious Savini effects.  This is going to fail on so many levels.  :(
